Must check bill

Saw this set lunch menu with 8 choices for MYR18.88++ each (10% service charge and 6% GST) with a main meal, a drink and a dessert so the two of us ordered one fish curry set to share. Please click on the menu above for a larger image.

Fish Curry Set - Fish Curry - Spicy Sourish with a thick piece of tuna fish so it was very nice, Hot tea with lime and "assam boi" (a pickled fruit) - they put two assam boi in it so the drink is very flavourful, and cendol - this cendol is not that nice because it tastes like it uses canned coconut milk. The yellow french bean curry also uses canned coconut milk so it was not that nice.

When I checked the bill, the total came up to MYR34.40 so I asked the cashier about it. It turned out that the waitress entered our order in as 3 individual items and not as one set meal. After it was corrected, the total price came up to MYR22 nett. Luckily I clarified with them and did not just pay the bill blindly.

Shopfront at MidValley Mall. This eatery can be found in a few other shopping malls as well and has been around for many years now.

  1. yes, when I dine I always look at the price on the menu, and I roughly have an idea how much the total would be.. I also often check the bill but sometimes may overlook, anyway as long as what's on the bill comes close to what's in my mind, should be okay.. :)

    1. You allow a difference of how many percentage from what's in your mind?

  2. same here too...I always check the bill before paying, and surprisingly 50% of the time I noticed mistake in the bill...either wrongly key-in item or mistakenly added something which I did not order, or the quantity & prices different...I wonder how can this be so frequent. Seems like the cashier is so prone in making mistake!

    1. Grocery shopping listing is more difficult to check especially if there are many items on the list.

  4. Now I am more careful to check the bill, at least to know the approximate amount. Sometimes there will be mistakes and it is good habit to check through the bill.

    1. Yes and to ask the price before ordering if the price is not stated in the menu.

  6. I really should do that too - would usually just pay but so far so good, nothing of the sort in the bill or none that I noticed. I guess it pays to be careful.

I have seen this Rasa Utara place at Bukit Bintang Plaza a long long time ago but I never did stop by to try. Looks very good, should stop by if I ever hop over to KL again.

    1. I wonder whether it is still there. Could check their website if there is one or if I ever go to Bukit Bintang Plaza to look for it.

  7. I thought only those banglas in OldTown do this kind of thing. Set meal key in as a la carte... That's the only place where I will scrutinize my bill 100% of the time.

  8. I've eaten here a long time ago. Yeah, nowadays I try to check my bills too coz of the few untoward incidents I had recently with wrong billing. I even have one now of a double charge in my credit card billing that's under investigation! :(

    1. For credit card, just do a chargeback on that transaction that was double charge. May take a while but usually the duplicate transaction will be removed.

  9. Ring a bell... I have dined at this place long time ago and they are quite good. I forgot which outlet I dined at as they have 6 outlets in Klang Valley. They have same bosses who opened Satay Anika too.

Recently, I also noticed too many bills were wrongly keyed in everywhere from 7-Eleven to Petrol Kiosks and restaurants. So scary esp when it could be over RM50 difference.

    1. Thanks for the info. Didn't know that they are owned by the same bosses. MYR50 difference is a lot!

  13. Do they have any branch in KSL JB or City Square JB cos I usually go JB

  14. Yeah, for one item it would be quite obvious.

I also try and check the bill before I go, but with multiple items it's usually harder to spot errors. However, I'll know around how much it should be though so if it's around that price I wouldn't check since I figure it must be correct.

    1. You are right, if order multiple items, it would be also harder to calculate before hand how much the bill should be.

  15. Oo big difference in the bill proportionately! Having different prices for set and ala carte must be tough for the staff.

    1. Don't think it is tough as I think for the ala carte, each item is keyed into the cash register individually with each of their own product code whereas the set has one special product code. They just need to key in the correct ones.
