Wai Kei

Wai Kei Restaurant (not air-conditioned), Old Klang Road serves tasty home-style dishes and is usually packed for dinner during weekends. It is located in one of the shop lots just beside The Scott Garden so we will park the car there and walk over to Wai Kei for dinner.

This is what we usually order (for four persons):

Chicken cooked in Chinese Wine. Medium portion for MYR30. I prefer the fried egg with many slices of ginger in the wine soup than the chicken. The wine is quite sweet. I order this dish for the wine and the fried egg with ginger rather than for the chicken.

Steamed Tilapia fish with ginger sauce (MYR30). I like the ginger sauce. The fish usually is very fresh although once we got a fish that had been obviously frozen for some time and then defrosted because the meat was all crumbly and falling apart.

Yong Tau Fu (assorted vegetables with fish paste in them) - MYR1.2 per piece. Photo shows Brinjal and Bitter Gourd pieces. The fish paste is firm and full of fish taste (the good taste). The pieces are big and tasty so this is one of the places that serves good Yong Tau Fu.

Rice is MYR1 per portion and as only two of us had rice, the total bill came up to MYR66.80 which is quite reasonable for it works out to be only MYR16.70 per person.

  2. I used to eat there during lunch with my colleagues (now ex-colleagues) when I was working in Bangsar. The food is indeed quite good especially the yong tau fu. You should try the curry fish head too next time.

    1. Not even a single grain? Not even at home? Like westerners, eat bread only?
