1.12 noon - I ate one slice of the very colourful and bright cakes. Didn't eat the cream. The cake is an old school sponge cake so the taste and texture is acceptable.
This bakery is located near my primary school and during my school days 43 years ago, my parents used to buy buns and cakes from this bakery. I bought these cakes and jellies for old times' sake. Good to see that this bakery is standing strong during pandemic times.
7.18 pm - he tried a bit of this slice of chocolate swiss roll and didn't eat more because he says he can detect butter taste in the cream. So I ate it the next day.
54, Jln Sungai Besi, Pudu, KL.
I am thinking of ordering a strawberry, blueberry or black forest cake from them since I have been eating their cakes since 5 years old.
1 pm - the elderlies lunch. He has made it his goal to provide them with chapfan for lunch so he is now trying out all the chapfan stalls in the vicinity.
This time it is Fatty Mixed Rice Chap fan located at 60, Jalan Radin Anum 1, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, KL. I believe NuxV has been to this chapfan eatery.
He bought:
1. 2 pieces of deep fried mackerel at MYR 6 each = MYR 12
2. 1 piece of deep fried mackerel at MYR 5
3. 2 portions of rice at MYR 3
4. Lotus root, celery, baby corn MYR 3
5. Sour spicy mustard leaves MYR 3
6. Cabbage MYR 3
Total chapfan for 3 pax: MYR 29 nett
11.20 am - his lunch. He shared half the piece of deep fried mackerel fish with me.

It tastes very nice 👍😋 I like it. It is like layers and layers of roti canai mixed with eggs and spring onions. Not salty because it is supposed to be eaten with curry gravy. I will definitely buy it again.
11.26 am - I bought curry pork skin ccf MYR 6.30 from the Ipoh ccf kiosk in Sunny Food Republic Coffee shop. Then I saw this sengkuang aka yam bean aka jicama deep fried food item and bought one MYR 2 because it is only usually sold in shops in perak. The curry tastes good and the ccf is those QQ springy type.
I also bought chicken thigh hor fun MYR 9 and added prawns MYR 3.50 to it for his dinner.
Fri 8.jul.22 8.34 am, also bought this pork noodles for his next day's breakfast. I requested for mihun but the seller provided kway teow instead. The kway teow is thick and QQ springy. The soup is on the sweet side. He thinks they put sugar in it.
*** Bakeries ***
10.38 am - he dropped me off at TK bakery and he went to buy chapfan because I wanted to buy old school cakes. There were no old school cakes in TK bakery.
There were slices of modern cakes such as Opera Cakes, pandan layer cakes at about MYR 10.90 per slice in TK Bakery so I bought two egg tarts MYR 2.60 each and instead of siew Bao, he requested for char siew bun so I bought one char siew bun at MYR 3.70 for him. He ate it for supper and said that the char siew bun is tasty 😋 so we can buy it again instead of siew Bao.
Then I walked to RT Pastry and Berry Cake House but they only have modern slices of cakes, no old school cakes so I walked to Sunny Food Republic Coffee shop to buy noodles and he picked me up from there after he has completed his task of buying chapfan lunch. There are many eateries in Sri Petaling and we haven't tried all of them yet. Will slowly do so to find tasty affordable food.
Beautiful and colourful cakes. When as a kid, we love the cream and icing but now, we scrape off all the sweet toppings. Some chap fun stalls have very tasty dishes.
ReplyDeleteI never like the cream even as a child I always scrapped them off as I am doing now. Just like to see the colours only, lolx! True about the chap fan stall.
DeleteOld school cakes can be pretty tasty. Nothing beats the old school sponge cake.
ReplyDeleteFor those who likes old style butter cream sponge cake, they are very tasty. 😋
Deletei just googled this cake shop and noticed that it is located quite nearby the old 'Fajar'. When i was a kid in the 80s/early 90s, my family & I used to shop there. Me and my mum even waited for public bus (to get home) at that stretch of shop (after done with our shopping). But somehow i couldn't remember there is a cake shop there. Yea, I have been to fatty mixed rice before.
ReplyDeleteYes, you are absolutely right. It is opposite fajar where u waited for the bus. You remember got a fotorex shop there? It is a few shops from fotorex shop. It is so low key that most people won't notice it I guess.
DeleteYou really went hunting for old-school cakes! Come to think of it, yeah the usual cake shops don't carry them.
ReplyDeleteYa because Chen tiang cake house is not on food delivery app. Need to specially arrange with them.
