Banana Catsup

Finally I got hold of this after reading about it in Phong Hong's post.

Banana Ketchup

My friend from Philippines confirmed that this is the real deal.

Let's take a closer look at the ingredients. I am told that this can be bought from shops in Kota Raya.

It looks like normal tomato ketchup but the taste is a bit different due to the spices used. I can taste the spices in it but I can not identify the exact spices. No taste of banana at all. I will use it as a tomato ketchup substitute.

  3. I thought the name looked familiar, seems like I saw it before in PH's blog too. The only thing real according to the ingredients is banana, yet there is no taste of banana at all... hmm...

    1. It is created in Philippines as a substitute to tomato ketchup when there was a tomato ketchup shortage during World War II according to wiki.

  5. hmmmm, something interesting, haha!! i was wondering what banana catsup is.. ketchup with bananas in it?? but there is no tomato used at all, only banana and spices and coloring and flavors.. anyway, i actually like the packaging, this type of resealable bag is surely easy to squeeze the banana catsup till the last drop.. and the nozzle by the side and no on top, is also more convenient huh?? clever design :)
