2 Pizzas for the Price of 1

Ben's General Food Store has a new branch at the Gardens Mall. It opened at the end of May 2016 and since then, it is having a "2 Pizzas for the Price of 1" promotion until 26 June 2016 (Sunday) for dine-ins or takeaways so yesterday we bought two pizzas to take away.

The size of all their pizzas are 12 inches in diameter and of the thin crust type. If the two selected pizzas differ in price, the lower priced pizza will be free. Other than pizzas, they serve a variety of salads, roast chicken meals, pasta, coffee and fresh fruit juices with a special menu for children meals.

Truffle Calzone (suitable for vegetarian) - MYR39 nett. According to wiki online, a calzone is an Italian oven-baked folded pizza. This calzone is a 12 inches pizza folded in half and stuffed with black truffle paste, truffle oil and mozarella cheese. Parmesan cheese and chives are sprinkled on top.

As I love to eat cheese, I find this calzone very tasty. The black truffle paste tastes earthy and goes well with the cheeses. Not for those who cannot take the pungent smell of cheeses and truffles. The thin crust pizza is folded in half so when I bite into it, the crust is thick and chewy, simply delicious!

For the 2nd pizza, I ordered Carnivorous at the same price - MYR39 nett - beef pepperoni, beef bacon, chicken sausages, lamb meatballs, mozarella and tomato paste. This pizza is for meat lovers so I shared it with my siblings. Taste is nice but I prefer pizzas with thick crusts.

The menu for pizzas. Which two pizzas would you have ordered? I did not order seafood pizzas because I feel that seafood such as prawns, mussels and squids do not taste good as toppings on pizzas.

The exterior of Ben's General Food Store in the Gardens Mall. There is a small play area for children inside so this is a family friendly restaurant. Very suitable for parents with young children and toddlers.

  1. I used to love pizza with thick crust and then there is a time when I find those thin ones better. Today, I am back with thick crust.

The pizzas here doesn't look very appealing to me. Maybe they dont look as good as they taste. As people always say, "dont judge a book by its cover".

    1. After being cooked, can't really tell from the photos whether the ingredients are fresh or not but from the taste, the toppings used for this pizza are good quality fresh food.

  3. Ben's getting famous, expanding left, right and centre. That price, divided by 2 since you're getting another one free, is cheap, all that meat some more. We had a similar offer at my favourite Italian place here...but with certain terms & conditions, more like a gimmick to attract business - must eat in and must order a pizza to get another one free on your next visit, eat in too, cannot takeaway or something like that...and for a limited time only. I did not bother to go for it.

    1. Ever since Ben sold Delicious to E&O, he got a huge sum for it so can open up so many watering holes and eateries. Yes, this is a good deal without much T&C so that is why I went for it. The pizzas are delicious too.

  4. I always enjoyed pizza with thick crust (it's the only one available during my time, when dad bought for us as a treat when I was young), but now, macam-macam ada, like cheese inside the crust la, thin crust la.. I only go for Domino's.. Never heard of Ben's.. But I can finish your calzone, can hold with 1 hand and terus put in mouth, no need cut, haha..

    1. The calzone will make you feel full very fast because it has lots of truffle oil. Ben is not a pizza chain. It is a group of eateries and watering holes. Ben used to own the Delicious cafe until he sold it and open up lots of other eateries with the money.

  5. Probably the wild mushroom, or calzone. Not that I'm suddenly vegetarian, but I don't like seafood on pizza, and the rest is with beef, the tomato and cheesy ones are too... boring, and the chicken one has the same ingredients as Pizza Hut's Hawaiian Delight. So I really don't have much of a choice.

    1. I was also interested in the wild mushroom pizza but decided to go for the carnivorous instead since got meat eaters in my group.

  6. That truffle one you had seems a must-order. :) My next would probably be the wild mushroom. I don't quite like seafood on pizza either. If pasta ok.

    1. Do you like the taste of black truffles?

    2. I had a few bottles of the oil and in that quantity, I found the smell too chemical-ly. These had ONE (haha how kiamsiap right) tiny black shaving inside so I assume it's black truffle. But when ordering truffle-stuff outside, I find them quite nice.

    3. Wow, the black truffle oil is expensive and you have a few bottles? How do you use them in your cooking?

  8. Oh, I thought you were writing about Canadian Pizza 2 for 1 :) It's a good deal getting two pizzas for the price of one provided you have people to share it with. I would love any pizza except the Cheesy Talk.

    1. Oh so Canadian Pizza has this offer too? Let me see where is the nearest outlet to my place. Yes, 2 pizzas for the price of one is always a good deal. You don't like cheese that much, I see. :)

  9. I am still not fan of pizza but if no choice of food, I would prefer the thin crust type.. not so filling as the thick ones...

    1. For the thick ones, if you just take one slice would not be so filling, hehehe but of course if eating the thin crust types, can eat more than one slice. :D
