Krishna Curry House

Back to food in the Klang Valley. Finally I went to try Phong Hong's favourite banana leaf rice and briyani rice.

These were the vegetables and condiments for the banana leaf rice that day we were there. We chose plain white rice instead of briyani rice for the banana leaf rice. No service charge, only 6% GST is applied to the price. Banana leaf rice costs MYR6.50 + 6% GST = MYR6.90 per person.

We also ordered the chicken briyani (MYR14+ = MYR14.50), squid (MYR6+ = MYR6.35) and the famous mutton curry in claypot (MYR12+ = MYR12.75).

This piece of fish costs MYR7+ (MYR7.40) with the same pot of chicken briyani rice for size comparison.

This is so unique - an order chit with pictures. We ordered a mango lassi (MYR4.50+ = MYR4.80) and a cup of coffee (MYR1.50+ = MYR1.60).

Extra charge (MYR5) for sharing but this notice is put behind the payment counter so it is not that visible. I guess the person taking the order will inform the customers about this when necessary unless this "ruling" is not enforced.

This is the famous place. I read from some other blogs that the food here used to be much nicer but I wouldn't know since I have not been here before. It was a satisfying meal but since the location is quite far from where I stay, I don't think I will visit here again. I would rather go to other banana leaf rice eateries nearer to my place. My friend said that she prefers the banana leaf rice at Restaurant Curry Leaf, Damansara Uptown because the spices taste in their curries are more pronounced than this place.

Total bill came up to MYR61.50 which I consider to be not very expensive. They put fresh coconut instead of mango lassi on the bill due to both having the same price.

    2. Good that you can have it many times in month. I need to go quite a distance to get it.

  2. The bryani looks good, looks nicer than what I had in Fierce. I love banana leaf, none here...too few Indians and the Chinese here are not so adventurous when it comes to eating.

Curry looks stunning! And is that the Indian potato salad or whatever? My girl loves it! Blogpost on that coming soon...

    1. I wouldn't say this is nicer than Fierce. I like the briyani at Fierce though I find it a bit too salty. Not sure whether it is potato salad or not. Looking forward to your post.

  3. I would go for briyani rice although I know how filling it would be. Now I miss banana leaf!!

  5. Wah, they left those 3-in-1 pots on your table for you take as much as you like? That's very nice of them :) The best thing for me in a BLF is all these condiments.

  6. Aiya, since it is not near your home and you went all the way there, why not just go for briyani rice instead of white rice? Go for the full experience ma...

    1. We did order briyani rice chicken in the pot to get a taste of the briyani rice. To get the full taste of curry must eat with plain white rice to make the curry taste stand out for the banana leaf rice.

  7. I am also a great fan of really good Indian food. I am happy to be a Malaysian born who could enjoy Malay, Indian, Chinese and Thai food anytime.

I had a good giggle at the order chit. It made me think it was to help their Indian workers from Chennai who might not read English.

I also heard that Restaurant Curry leaf is a very good place for curries.

    1. Have you eaten at both these places? Where do you go to for your banana leaf rice fix?

  8. Wonder why they charged extra for sharing ya?

    1. Because the rice for banana leaf rice is free flowing - can add more rice without needing to pay more so if two persons are sharing then that means more rice will be eaten so need to pay extra.

  9. Oh, you went there! I also like the food at Curry Leaf and I find that the taste is distinctly different. Both are good to me but I still feel Krishna has an edge. Yesterday evening, I tapau rice, vege and mutton curry from Curry Leaf and enjoyed it for dinner :)

    1. May I ask why Krishna has an edge for you since my friend said their spices in the curry is less pronounced than Curry Leaf? Could it be that you like a milder spice taste in curries?

    2. It's hard to describe. Krishna's is more to my taste. As for the taste of the spice, both have more or less the same intensity for me. It's the flavors that are different.

    3. Flavours different due to different specific spices used in the curry. I prefer curries with a strong cumin and cardamon taste. What about you? Which spice taste do you like in the mutton curry?

  10. Hi Mun, believe it or not, I started to drool the moment I saw the condiments in the first photo. As I scroll down, seeing what you have ordered, I think I want to eat banana leaf rice tomorrow! Its been a long, long time since I last eaten it. But I am suppose to cut down on rice, sigh!

    1. I just took half a bowl of plain rice for this banana leaf rice so you can do the same. Do write about banana leaf rice in Ipoh, I wonder is it the same as those served in KL.

  11. Arghh drooling at your pics! That one-banana-leaf-for-one-person notice... must have been a real problem for them.

    1. Somehow I suspect that they don't enforce it.
