Sangkaya

I was in Ampang Point recently and walked by this stall - "Sangkaya - nuts about coconuts" and so decided to try this coconut ice cream. I think they only sell coconut ice cream, no other flavours.

One scoop of coconut ice cream on a cone - MYR2.90, 3 scoops of ice creams - MYR6.90 and 4 scoops of ice cream with coconut flesh and 3 toppings of choice - MYR9.90 so we chose 3 scoops of ice creams but then the cashier upsell the MYR9.90 and we were sold so 4 scoops it was. We will get one more scoop of ice cream, some coconut flesh and 3 toppings.

We had to choose and put on the toppings ourselves but there was no space at all on the ice creams so we took only very little toppings. The choices for toppings are corn niblets, cornflakes, oatflakes (I think), kidney beans, coconut shavings, peanuts. We selected corn niblets, peanuts, coconut shavings.

The 4 scoops of ice cream on top of some pieces of coconut flesh were served in a tiny piece of coconut shell which made us very afraid that the ice cream would fall off and there was really no place for the toppings.

The coconut ice cream itself was not too sweet, just nice and before I knew it, the ice cream was finished. Maybe I will go for the single scoop next time.

  4. oh this looks very nice and haha, probably that's an intentional trick to upsell and also very little space for you to add toppings - else they would have rugi a lot, haha!!! :p

  5. Good eh? Sangkaya is my nephew's business enterprise, with his Thai girlfriend - my brother-in-law's son.

  7. Ampang Point! My lepak place when I was in college!
I think 3 scoops is a better deal, since the additional toppings for 4 scoops are so limited due to the small bowl..

    1. But 4 scoops include some coconut flesh as well. Time for you to go to Ampang Point and do a walk-down-memory post. :)

  12. I will go for 1 scoop first and add the toppings. If the ice cream is really good, then will go for 3 scoops. The ice cream looks real creamy and nice.

  13. Wasted la the upsell if no place for the additional toppings! I'd have gone more for the ice-cream rather than toppings.

  14. I have never had coconut ice-cream. I would imagine that it is good. The serving plate is too small. A bowl would be better. Maybe it is done that way so that people can't take a lot of toppings.

    1. Don't think that is the intention. Serving in coconut shells is part of reusing aka rrecycling
