Tonkatsu by Ma Maison

Deep fried oyster (1 piece) with shredded raw cabbage, a wedge of lemon and mayonnaise - MYR5.50 - the oyster is very fresh.

Cold grated daikon served  as starter for the two set meals.

Hot Japanese roasted barley tea - foc and refillable. The coaster is a piece of blue jeans cloth with the logo of the restaurant embroidered on it.

Instructions are given on a piece of card for you to choose and make your own sauce from the bottles of spices, salt, sesame and sauces provided.

Deep fried pork fillet set meal with refillable rice, raw shredded cabbage and soup - MYR29.90 - I chose multigrain rice which has black beans and red beans in it. Raw shredded leek and raw grated daikon are heaped on the pork fillet. A small portion of pickled daikon and a dollop of mustard are also provided.  I share this meal with my friend so we did not ask for any refill because it would be unethical to share and ask for refills. Anyway we both were small eaters so we were full with just this one set meal.

Cross section of the pork fillet - you can see there is a bit of solid fat which I removed and did not eat. When you eat this deep fried pork with raw daikon, leek and cabbage, it did not seem oily at all due to the raw vegetables and strong taste of the raw leek. You can choose not to have the raw daikon and raw leek.

Deep fried pork loin miso sauce set meal with the same items as the pork fillet set - MYR27.90 - the thick miso sauce has almost covered the pork loin. The thick miso sauce tastes quite similar to yong tau fu brown sauce but is more fragrant.

The miso soup provided with the set meal has pieces of daikon in it.

We did not expect to be served desserts for the two set meals.

We think this is plum jelly but there is a bit of medicine taste like the taste of cough syrup but we finished them anyway.

Entrance - the blue wall is made up of various strips of various shades of blue jeans cloth. Refillable raw cabbage, soup and rice banner.

Interior - as we were quite early for dinner, other customers have not arrived yet but as we were eating, they were trickling in.

    1. No. The miso soup is fine. It is the dark miso sauce on top of the pork fillet that is thick and taste a bit like timm cheong.

  3. This is one of the more "atas" Japanese food outlet in KL nowadays right? It seems the Japanese chains are trying to out-"atas" one another lately though. I love that they got sell pork, an authentic katsu can only be pork katsu.

    2. Hahaha sk is correct. This is on the most atas floor. I think this is just normal eatery only but a good one, not those fine dining super expensive places. I for one am happy that they have good and tasty Japanese food eateries now so I don't have to fly to Japan for food.

    2. Aha, sk knows his stuffs. Yuzu shoyu is the best! I like it very much when eating in Japan. This place does not have it but the other tonkatsu eatery in Pavilion does.

  6. I like that they allow you to choose to have the multigrain rice, I too would opt for that like you.. and those grated daikon was appetizer?? ooopss!!! call me jakun, I would have poured some shoyu into that and use it as dip for my katsu!! that would be so embarrassing.. :p

    1. Not expensive because the rice, cabbage and soup is refillable. Located at the "atas" floor only, not a fine dining place. :)
