WG Duck Egg CKT

Penang Duck Egg CKT in KL - MYR 13.50 nett. Whenever I miss the KTG Penang CKT, I can eat this one now. It is almost as tasty despite having only 2 prawns as compared to the 5 prawns in KTG Penang CKT and cost MYR 1.50 nett more. I prefer this than the noodle in yesterday's post.

I bought the above CKT from Secret Penang Cafe stall in Lot 10 Hutong food court.

Then I bought this Macau Pork Chop Bun - MYR 13.90 nett and requested for them to omit the butter on the bun as takeaway for my spouse. It is best eaten on the spot as the bun turned hard when cold.

The above bun is bought from this Porco Macau Pork Chop Bun stall in Lot 10 Hutong Food Court. Tai Lei Loi Kei Macau Pork Chop Bun is no longer available here but this Porco Macau is just as delicious.

"Today wastage is tomorrow's shortage" so please eat and finish all our food. Please take your leftovers home for your next meal.

All under 1 roof.

WG Thai Hou Sek

I have seen this eatery at One Utama but have never eaten there so when it opened a branch in Midvalley Mall at LG (in the previous place where McD was), my friend and I went there for lunch.

Siu Yuk (Roast Pork) Fried Rice - MYR 22 nett. The portion of rice is not that big so I suspect it may not be enough for big eaters.

My order - Pad Thai Seafood - MYR 22 nett. It is more expensive than the Pad Thai set lunch (MYR 18.40 nett) that I ate at Mhera-33 a few weeks ago. Although that set lunch included soup, drink and dessert, it does not have any meat in the pad thai whereas this pad thai has 3 prawns, a lot of squid and 3 slices of pork belly bacon so it is up to you to decide which one is more worth it.

The prawns have a firm texture and seemed fresh but have a slight tap-water-taste to it. I would describe the tap-water-taste as a slight chlorine taste so while this pad thai is tasty, the prawns would deter me from ordering it again.

Total Bill for 2 pax = MYR 44 nett.

The interior is nicely decorated.

Quite a popular place during lunch time. Perhaps it is because it just opened a few weeks ago.

WG Birthday Lunch

Steamed Red Tilapia with ginger paste - MYR 18+ (6% GST = MYR 19.10 nett). This Tilapia fish did not have the earthy taste.

Beancurd (Tofu) served in a hot plate lined with eggs - MYR 13+ (MYR 13.80 nett) for a small portion. This is a simple but tasty dish.

Half a chicken - MYR 38+ (MYR 40.30 nett). It included a few types of mushrooms and one whole clove of garlic that caused my friend to remark that the gravy tasted like bak kut teh due to the garlic taste. Don't think we will order this again because we don't feel that the taste is special enough to warrant the price.

Stir Fried Long Bean with Roast Pork (small) - MYR 14+ (MYR 14.85 nett). This is a common but favourite dish of many people due to the roast pork.

Mixed Vegetables Curry in Claypot (medium) - MYR 21+ (MYR 22.25 nett). My friend put in a separate order of bean curd sheets to add to the curry. This curry is the reason Hou Keng restaurant was chosen to celebrate the birthday of a friend who loves to eat it.

A place of deep fried crispy bean curd sheets to be added to the curry - MYR 5+ (MYR 5.30 nett).

Total Bill is MYR 133.05 nett for 6 pax but the birthday star does not need to pay so it is around MYR 26.60 each for 5 pax. Not too expensive for a hearty lunch.

3D mural

I saw this 3D painting on one of the walls of Penang Airport Terminal. Cendol shaved ice is one of my favourite dessert but they depicted it as a monster tentacle! Yikes!

Mung Bean Paste Biscuits

Mini Green Bean (Mung Bean) Paste Biscuit from CHG (Ching Han Guan), Ipoh. They taste very different from those Tambun Biscuits from Penang which also have Mung Bean Paste as the fillings. The pastry skin of these biscuits from Ipoh taste like the pastry skin of traditional moon cakes.

Bigger biscuits - Green Bean (Mung Bean) Paste Biscuit. The pastry skin here is flaky and layered unlike the mini ones above. I like both biscuits as I like the Mung Bean fillings.

WG Purple Cane

Vegetable Noodle Soup - MYR 13.90++ (10% service charge and 6% GST = MYR 16.20 nett).

This is not a small pot of tea but soup - Arrow root soup at MYR 7.90++ (MYR 9.20 nett).

Size comparison. Both items are ordered by my friend.

This is my order - Fried Lei Cha Rice - MYR 13.90++ (MYR 16.20 nett). I kept half of it for dinner. It was quite tasty with pine nuts. I could not taste anything in it that resembles Lei Cha which I have eaten before but my friend who ate some said she detected Basil taste in it.

4 prawns are hidden in the fried rice.

Interior

Purple Cane Tea Restaurant at the Gardens Mall.

Total Bill for 2 pax is MYR 41.65 nett.

WG Same Owner

Seabass - MYR 26+ (6% GST = MYR 27.56 nett) at Food Foundry, Happy Mansion, PJ. The portion is just right for me.

Side view. This slice of seabass has crispy salty skin. I like that this dish includes spinach, mashed pumpkin and mashed potatoes. The sauce has a slight taste of black pepper.

The cake counter. Can you find the gingerbread house decoration on top of the cake counter?

After our main lunch, we went to Butter and Beans, Happy Mansion, PJ to have coffee and cake. Almond Salted Caramel Millecrepe Cake - MYR 14 nett shared by 3 of us.

I ordered a glass of Iced Americano - MYR 7 nett. It tastes a bit on the sour side rather than bitter. I am ok with the taste and I hope it will boost my metabolism as claimed by some websites to counter the calories consumed by me after eating one third of the cake. Americano does not have sugar or milk so it has only about 15 calories.

Butter and Beans at Happy Mansion, PJ. I noticed that this cafe has a similar gingerbread house decoration and mentioned it to my friend. She asked the barista about it and was told that both eateries belong to the same owner.

Both the bills. Lunch for 3 pax is a total of MYR 109.90 nett making it an average of MYR 36.63 nett per person.
