Kai Lan Fa

Fa means flower in Cantonese and Kai Lan is a vegetable that is also known as Chinese Broccoli or Chinese Kale. I like to eat this vegetable.

I didn't know that its flowers are white in colour

I ate the flowers raw and they were kind of fragrant

If only all the buds blossomed into flowers, it would be so pretty.

This is my first time to encounter such veggie but it looks like a mixture of Artichoke and Cauliflower and Brocolli to me

  4. I like kailan too!! it's my favorite leafy greens I have to say.. I haven't seen a full blossom before, the most are the yellow buds only and before they bloom, they would have already been cooked and gone into my stomach.. :D

    1. Not much taste. You can just taste a tinge of fragrance in your mouth.

In Thailand, I ate so many types of flowers from my grandpa's garden. They just dipped into spicy Thai sambal belacan to eat like ulam.

  9. Lovely flower. Usually the kailan fa we see is just small yellowish buds. Haha. Btw I just cooked them for dinner tonight. I usually toss away the flower buds but they are edible.

  10. I have only seen the buds, not the fully bloomed flowers. Wow, you at it raw. To do that, I will need some kind of dip.

    1. Just two tiny flowers, having a dip would be overkill.

  11. I have eaten the buds and flower blanched or stir fried. Not adventurous enough to try it raw.

    1. I guess it is risky since it could contain pesticide.

  13. It looks beautiful! It's like something a high end restaurant would serve on a plate and call it modernist salad.
