Top up for Sets

We were back at Kura, One World Hotel to celebrate a birthday. Dragon roll at MYR 40.28 nett with a deep fried prawn in the middle. One piece each and my friend prefers a similar roll at Yuzu - the .Ebi Avocado maki.

Unagi set (small) - MYR 50.88 nett.

Salmon shioyaki at MYR 29.68 nett and add MYR 10.60 nett to turn it into a set meal (MYR 40.28 nett)

Total bill for 4 pax: MYR 171.70 nett.

As with last year's super dining ang pow packets, it also has the words "super dining" written at the bottom.

Tokushima Wagyu

This section of the menu piqued my interest. Which method of cooking the beef do you prefer?

It was from this special "Haru no Mikaku" menu. I searched online and found that Haru means spring and Mikaku means "Sense of Taste".

So I ordered these two items: 50g of grilled sirloin beef with tomato in rich miso at MYR 88 nett and a salad roll at MYR 13 nett.

The beef is served rare so I decided to cook it more. I was quite wary of the gas cylinder.

I removed all the slices of tomato and put them on a plate. Then I cooked the slices of beef on both sides slightly and switched off the fire when they are just done. The beef is very tender and delicious!

I thought the beef was served on a plate shaped like a leaf but after all 3 of us finished eating the beef, only then I realised that the plate is in fact a real dry leaf. I wonder why the dry leaf could withstand the flames .

I ordered this salad roll because I wanted to eat very little rice with vegetables.

There are 3 types of vegetables here - avocado, cucumber and lettuce.

My friend ordered Oyster Nabe set at MYR 42 nett and another friend ordered our favourite Salmon Shioyaki Set (no photos) at MYR 32 nett.

There are two fresh oysters in the ladle. There are a few more oysters in the miso broth.

To our surprise, we were given a MYR 20 nett discount because Kura Restaurant at One World Hotel just reopened a few weeks ago after moving to the ground floor of the hotel from the first floor.

This is how the entrance looks like now compared to before the move.

When one walks from One Utama Shopping Mall to the lobby of One World Hotel on the ground floor, one must walk past Kura Restaurant now.

Sake Oyakodon

Sake Oyakodon (Salmon and Salmon Roe on top of rice). Oyako means 'parent and child' so salmon is the parent and salmon roe is the child. Normally Oyakodon without the word Sake (salmon) in front serves you chicken (parent) and egg (child) on top of rice.

This is the Sake Oyakodon set - MYR30++ - with a starter, chawan mushi, miso soup and fruits apart from the main sake oyakodon.

Sushi and Tempura set - MYR38 - with the same starter, chawan mushi, miso soup, pickled vegetable, in addition to the main tempura and sushi.

Close up of the starter-of-the-day - some sort of fried fish stewed in a sweet miso gravy. Strong flavour.

Close up of the sushi served - tuna, salmon, squid, prawn, crab, tamago, scallop. The size of the sushi is rather small compared to those I ate in Tokyo but it is fresh and tastes naturally sweet so it is fine for me since I find the price reasonable too.

Where else but at our favourite Japanese restaurant, Kura at One World Hotel.

Bento Meal

This double decker bento set meal costs  MYR60 and it includes the usual appetiser of the day, chawan mushi, miso soup, pickled vegetables and fruits.

The top layer

Close-up: Tempura, Yakitori, Salmon Sashimi Rice.

The lower layer

Close-up: Salmon Teriyaki, Daikon, Prawn Sashimi

I have to say I prefer having just the salmon set than this double decker bento set because there is just too much food for me and I need help from my family to finish the food.

Fresh Sanma Pressed Sushi (Nama Sanma Bousushi)- MYR26

Nama Sanma Bousushi as in the menu

Good Amount of Fish

I can't seem to get enough of Japanese food so we went for the weekday lunch set at Kura Japanese Restaurant at One World Hotel again.

Saba Shioyaki Lunch set - MYR23 - Mackerel grilled with a little salt. The fish is very fresh and a substantial amount of fish is provided because that is the only main food item. This fish (a choice of Saba, Sanma or Salmon) lunch set comes with fruits (watermelon and papaya this time), rice, miso soup, chawan mushi, pickled veges and an appetizer of the day that happens to be braised daikon, corn, carrot and prawn head.

Salmon Shioyaki Lunch set - MYR23 - Salmon grilled with a little salt. This salmon is very fresh too and quite a big piece is served. This set comes with the same items as the Saba set above.

I really like this grilled fish lunch set because I truly get my money's worth although I often end up feeling very full so I put aside half the rice and the pickled vegetables in a container I brought with me so that I could eat them later for dinner.

Hot green tea is served free of charge. Total Bill: MYR53.36 (inclusive of 10% service charge and 6% gov. tax) for 2 pax.

Kaisen Nabe Zen

We went to Kura Japanese restaurant again for its set lunch. Even though the set lunch menu only lists a choice of saba or sanma for its grilled fish set lunch, the waitress told us that salmon is available too so we ordered salmon shioyaki this time.

Salmon grilled lightly with salt set lunch (includes potatoes salad, pickled vege, chawan mushi, rice, miso soup, fruits) for only MYR23. To me, this is the best way to eat salmon - lightly grilled with salt with no heavy tasting sauce.

Seafood nabe set lunch (includes chawan mushi, fruits, rice, pototoes salad) for only MYR33. The seafood hotpot contains a lot of food for one person - chinese cabbage, prawns, pieces of salmon, tofu, lettuce, onions, squid rings and the soup is very tasty and not salty at all.

Hot green tea foc. Total Bill: MYR64.95 (inclusive of 10% service charge and 6% gov. tax).

Kura Japanese Restaurant

For celebrations, we always eat at Kura Japanese restaurant in One World Hotel, Bandar Utama. This restaurant belongs to Super Dining Sdn Bhd which also owns the following Japanese restaurants: Rakuzen, Zen, and Hokkaido Ichiba.

We have not eaten at Rakuzen nor Zen before but we have eaten at Hokkaido Ichiba, the Gardens and found that the service and ambiance at Kura is so much better than Hokkaido Ichiba, the Gardens so we prefer eating at Kura.

Hot  green tea - free of charge

Lunch set: Udon, tempura, chirashi don, chawan mushi, japanese pickled daikon/eggplant, mashed potatoes, fruits (MYR33)

Salmon sashimi lunch set (MYR23): rice, chawan mushi, miso soup, japanese pickles, mashed potatoes, salmon sashimi, fruits (watermelon and papaya).

Grilled saba lunch set (MYR23): rice, chawan mushi, miso soup, japanese pickles, mashed potatoes, saba shioyaki (grilled with salt), fruits.

The food is very fresh and tasty. The total bill is only MYR129.90 inclusive of 10% service charge and 6% gov. tax.
