2019 Valentine Day

We turned Valentine's Day into Ladies' Day and the 6 of us went to have this meal for sharing.

1st course: 2 sets of lobster bisque and salad with raisins and almond flakes. As before in 2015, I find the lobster bisque very creamy and on the salty side but one of my friend likes it and finished one bowl. The other bowl was left unfinished because the rest of us found it to be too creamy.

2nd course: Whole lobster pasta with mussels, prawns and scallops. The pasta is hidden underneath the lobster. Although the pasta is tasty but all 6 of us could not finish it because it was a big portion. We left a bit of pasta behind.

The lobster is bigger than a hand.

The waitress opened it up for us. I think they overcooked it because the meat was tougher than those I have eaten before.

3rd and last course: Heart shaped lava chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

Close up. Very rich chocolaty taste with chocolate sauce flowing out of the cake.

Foc cheddar bay biscuits - my favourite! Luckily this time they did not put the green herb dressing on them because I don't think my friends would like those green herb dressing. My friends like the taste.

We also ordered 3 mains from the ala carte menu. Lobster Tail, Shrimps and Salmon - MYR 119.90++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 139.08 nett). For a photo with a better view of the lobster tail, please refer to my previous visit in 2017 with this same dish. My friends like the fragrance of butter in the rice.

Sirloin steak with shrimps - MYR 79.90++ (MYR 92.68 nett). 3 of us shared the medium well steak because the other 3 ladies do not eat beef.

Fish and chips at MYR 33.90++ (MYR 39.32 nett). I ordered this main at the Intermark branch in 2015. That Intermark branch is now closed.

Total bill is MYR 471.25 nett making it about MYR 78.54 per pax as we also ordered 3 cups of hot tea (refillable hot water), 1 cup of hot long black coffee and 1 bottle of mineral water for 2 to share.

Red Lobster at The Curve Mall. May this branch stay in business for a long, long time because I think I will only return in 2 years time just for the cheddar bay biscuits.

P/S The CNY decor in The Curve Mall has been removed totally when we were there yesterday which was CNY day 10.

WG Alexis The Gardens

My friend wanted to eat western food for lunch and since Italiannies at The Gardens Mall is closed for renovation, I suggested Alexis to her and she agreed since both of us have never been there but have heard a lot about this restaurant that is well known for its delicious tiramisu cake.

Looking through the one-page menu, I decided on the lobster roll at MYR42++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 48.72 nett). The roll was not that big so I could finish it at one go. I also ate all the coleslaw with the mayonnaise vinegar dressing but kept the fries for dinner. The only other time that I ate a lobster roll was in 2016 at Pince & Pints, Bangsar Baru.

I like that I can detect chunks of lobster meat in the roll. The mayonnaise sauce tastes creamy and well seasoned with salt and pepper. As I usually don't eat mayonnaise, I guess I am not used to eating flavourful food because after this meal, I was very, very thirsty the whole day and drank many glasses of water to try to quench my thirst but this won't hold me back from trying lobster rolls at other places. I don't think we will be back here for our regular lunch unless it is for a celebration because the prices here are on the higher end as befitting this kind of place.

My friend ordered fish and chips at MYR39++ (MYR45.24). The menu states the fish as being dory but my friend said it is ok. I did not taste her fish so I cannot comment on it but I won't be ordering it to try as I have banned dory fish from my food list. She could not finish her fries so she requested it to be packed for her to take away which they obliged. Both of us did not order any drinks since two glasses of water are provided foc.

I noticed that the table next to us is having a plate of seared chunks of sashimi tuna (deep red in colour with deep brown seared lines), lots of haricot vert (french beans), kalamata olives and one soft boiled egg. I then looked up this dish on the menu to see that it is Salad Nicoise priced at about MYR34++ and I feel that I would not like a salad made up of mainly french beans because it does not look appetising. To me, a salad should consist of a variety of  leafy vegetables and not just one type of beans. Perhaps it is just my misconception. I then searched online for more information about Salad Nicoise and this is what I found.

Alexis at The Gardens Mall. They are all ready for Christmas - can you spot the Christmas tree? They were attentive and friendly so it was a pleasant visit despite the hole in our pockets.

Biscuit is Best

Before we talk about food, I still have some Christmas Decor photos to share. I was in Penang recently and was amazed by the amount of effort and money Queensbay Mall put into their decorations. Judge for yourself from the following photos:

A pavilion with a dome roof surrounded by white angel statues.

At a few fixed times, the dome will open. Just look at the crowd waiting for this moment.

A white mist will flow out from the Dome and a Christmas Tree will appear from within the Dome.

Its colour even changes from green to red. I did not stay to watch the Christmas Tree retreats into the Dome again.

Then snow will start falling from above. If you look hard enough, you may just see the white tiny dots (snow) in this photo.

Can you spot the two small oblong black boxes that are creating the snow and blowing them out? I believe the snow are made up of bubbles foam. I did not stand below them to let them fall onto my hair and clothes. Do you agree that they really went out of their way for this decor? I wonder how much it all costs to set this up.

 **** Now for the food:

Complimentary cheese biscuits. This time they poured some herb dressing on top whereas previously they did not. I would prefer that they did not do this but the herb dressing does not have any strong taste so the cheese biscuits taste just as nice as before.

Crispy on the outside and soft inside - simply delicious! I wish that they would sell this and put it on their menu so that I can buy many biscuits as takeaways to last me a week.

We ordered two mains.

Lobster Tail, Shrimps and Salmon - MYR 119.90++ (10% service charge and 6% GST = MYR 139.80 nett). The lobster tail could be less salty. The salmon is tender and tasty. I don't like the shrimps because they are too crunchy so I won't ever eat shrimps here again. Should have known this from my previous visit to this chain. The half lemon saved the day by bringing a refreshing taste to this dish.

Sirloin steak with shrimps - MYR 79.90++ (MYR 93.15 nett). I hold the same opinion about the shrimps here too. The mashed potato was very tasty because it was creamy and not salty. I did not like the pepper gravy in the blue container so I did not use it after tasting it.

I could not bring myself to eat the steak with oozing juices so I asked for medium well. Not as tender as medium rare but still tender.

A cup of long black to share at MYR 7.90++ (MYR 9.20 nett). We just drank it black without any creamer nor sugar.

Total bill before and after 10% discount. We took half of the food home for dinner.

Chili Lobster

Chili Lobster - MYR158++ (MYR177.5 nett after 6% GST and 6% service charge). This dish does not taste spicy at all. It is kind of sweet. We feel that the lobster in this meal is the largest lobster among our three orders. The deep fried mantou (buns) are quite small.

Green Apple and Celery Cold Press juice at MYR12++ (MYR13.48 nett). For the cold press juices, there is a list of vegetables and fruits and we could choose to mix any two of them.

Watermelon and Pineapple Cold Press Juice. A very refreshing drink with the sweetness of watermelon and slight sourness of pineapple. Same price as the above drink.
