WG Avocado Tempeh

It has been quite a while since we last visited The Good Co so we decided to have lunch there last week. I ate the Triple Deck BLAT sandwich this time at MYR 18.90 nett.

Organic cranberry bread, marinated Tempeh, mild cheddar, avocado, tomato and lettuce. Tasty but pricey.

I ordered one of the cold pressed juice and it was served in a pre packed bottle and a glass was provided separately. The price is MYR 12.90 nett. This price is the usual price for cold pressed juices sold in shopping mall.

Cold pressed juice from beetroot, goji berry, ginger, lemon, carrot and apple. Very refreshing and it feels healthy to be drinking this juice.

My friend had the Vegan Chicken Rice (MYR 20.90 nett) and Tomato Bell Pepper Soup (MYR 14.90 nett) just like before.

Smoothie Bowls

After eating the Golden Bowl at The Good Co, I wanted to try the other bowls so with 3 friends to share all my food, we went there again.

Ocean Bowl - MYR30 nett. The cold icy smoothie purplish blue colour is from the butterfly pea flower. Luckily the colour is not as blue as shown in the online shop menu. The taste of this smoothie is very subtle - honeydew and lychee with no indication of banana though it is in there. The toppings of orange, kiwi, strawberry, blueberry, coconut, mint leaves and granolas add more depth to the taste. My friends prefer Ocean Bowl to Hana Bowl.

Hana Bowl - MYR28.90 nett. I would say that this smoothie has a tangy mixed berries taste since it is made up of strawberries, mulberries, raspberries. Similar to the Ocean Bowl, I could not taste the banana in it although it is there which is a good thing to let me enjoy the berries taste. Toppings are: a pretty mango rose, coconut, pumpkin seeds, granolas, mint leaves and dried cranberries instead of mulberries.

One day, I will be back to try the Acai Bowl (MYR25.90 nett) which is made of Acai Powder and mainly Red Dragon Fruit. If you feel like eating ice desserts and want a healthy version, go for these pretty yet very delicious smoothie bowls which is only slightly sweet.

Wild Mushroom Soup with Truffle Oil - MYR14.90 nett. I also ordered a Falafel Raita Wrap which I ate before to go with this soup. The Truffle Oil taste here is strong so for those who cannot stand strong smell like those of stinky beans or blue cheese, you must be adventurous enough to try this.

Total Bill for 4 pax is MYR86.70 nett.

Meatless Healthy Lunch

Yesterday was day 1 of a new month in the lunisolar calendar (Chor Yat/初一) so my friend suggested that we have a vegetarian lunch and she brought me to The Good Co which is well known for serving healthy meatless food. Their tagline is "Nothing Beats Honest Food".

She ordered Vegan Chicken Rice - MYR20.90 nett and ate up every food item including the homemade chili sauce which she said was delicious. The monkey head mushrooms are the "chicken" and millet is the "rice".

She also had the Tomato Bell Pepper Soup at MYR14.90 nett which she drank till the very last drop and said that it was very tasty.

My food - Golden Bowl at MYR21.90 nett. This is a bowl of smoothie with mangoes, bananas, wolfberry, blueberries, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds and granolas as toppings. The main taste of the smoothie is banana. The smoothie is cold, not too sweet, is tasty but a bit too much for me though I finished it all because it is easy to eat since it is like eating cold dessert. Would be perfect if I share it with another person.

I also ordered the Falafel Raita Wrap at MYR12.90 nett but ate only one segment and took the 3 remaining segments back for dinner because I was full from finishing the smoothie.

This wrap is made up of homemade falafel, cider pickled carrot, coriander, lettuce, kyuri and mint raita sauce. The wrap is very crispy. My friend said we will eat here again so I am studying the online menu to see what I would order on our next visit.

Total Bill for 2 pax is MYR70.60 nett.

Comfortable dining area with a high ceiling. We placed and paid for our order at the counter before taking our seats.

Just enter through the glass doors. The Good Co. eatery is located in this BON Estates building which is opposite Bangsar Shopping Center on Jalan Maarof, Bangsar. There is a limited foc parking space (about 6 to 10 cars) for customers of The Good Co. eatery at the side of this building.

Wellness Recipe

So we were back at 10 Boulevard to eat at Chef Low Organic Kitchen but it was closed so we walked around and decided to try this eatery named "Wellness Recipe".

I ordered black rice with cashew nut curry at MYR16.80+ (5% service charge so the nett price is MYR17.65). The black rice tastes like black glutinous rice. I kept half the rice and curry for dinner. I also ordered a cold drink - Beta Beet Lemon at MYR5.90+ (MYR6.20 nett).  The drink is slightly sweet and refreshing.

My friend ordered herbal soup with brown rice (vegetarian meal) at MYR12.80+ (MYR13.45 nett). Her drink is Honey Lemon Chia Seeds (hot) at MYR7.90+ (MYR8.30 nett). She said that the food is tasty.

A closer look at the curry dish. There are no cashew nuts in this curry so I suspect the cashew nuts were used to make the curry gravy as it was thick and creamy. There are lots of brinjals and long beans in this curry which I like. I did not expect there to be three large pieces of chicken meat so I just ate one piece and took the other two pieces home for my spouse to eat.

A closer look at the herbal soup. This is a vegetarian meal so there is no meat in the soup. I did not taste this soup but I can see that there are a few types of mushrooms and bean curds in it.

Total price for 2 pax is MYR45.55 nett which is a good price for so much food and drinks. I wouldn't mind eating at this place again.

Yulek Market

After reading RG's article about "Healthy Breakfast @ Yulek Market", I had to go and try it. I have not been to that market before so I missed a few turns on the way there and had to drive around a bit but I got there in the end.

I bought at least one each of all the types of food being sold at the healthy breakfast stall so that I get to try them all. Not too much because I shared them with my family.

Sago kuih (cake) with coconut flakes. MYR1 nett for one piece.

Nice to eat. Not too sweet. Would need RG to let me know what sugar or honey is being used to make this.

Steamed pumpkin cake - MYR3.50 nett per pack with 2 pieces in it.

Made from pumpkin and a type of healthy noodle. Would need RG's help again to let me know what kind of noodle this is made from. Taste good.

Savoury sago cakes - MYR2.80 nett for 1 pack with 2 cakes in it. There are two types for me to select - 1. chye poh (perserved vege) with dried shrimps (hay bee) and 2. Spicy sambal and I bought one pack each.

This is the one with chye poh (perserved vege) with dried shrimps (hay bee). The taste is perfect. My siblings like it and praise that it is very well-made.

Savoury sago cakes - MYR2.80 nett for 1 pack with 2 cakes in it. This one is with spicy sambal.

Side view.

Not too spicy so it is just right for me - this is the healthy version of pulut panggang because it tastes as good as a delicious pulut panggang.

White fungus sweet soup - MYR3 nett. Can tell that there is honey in it. Nice.

Pumpkin millet oats porridge  - MYR3 nett. I thought this is a savoury porridge but turns out it is slightly on the sweet side. I like it because I like to eat oats and with pumpkin, the oats taste great!

Mint Lemon Drink - MYR2 nett. Very refreshing with the fragrance of lemon and mint.

These muffins are made from yogurt. I have not eaten them yet so I will update this when I have eaten them. They are now in my fridge. Update: I am surprised to find out that they are banana muffins when I ate them. Moist and full of banana goodness.

I also bought 3 curry puffs at MYR1.80 nett each. My spouse says that it tastes good. I did not eat any because I am eating healthy food.

I took some time looking at all the stalls there before locating the correct one. The stall is the one with a man in yellow t-shirt sitting in front of it. RG, please correct me if I have written anything wrong here about the food. It is a pity that this market is quite far from my place else I would love to visit this stall every weekend for the healthy food.

Fruit Free Clusters

I was at Presto Supermarket, Citta Mall a few months ago looking around and this "buy one get one free" offer caught my eye. Two boxes of "Food For Health - Fruit Free Clusters with chia" for MYR26.99 only (475g nett - each box).

This fruit free clusters health food is created by an Australian for people with gluten and fructose intolerance (made in Australia too). One can eat this with milk (hot or cold) or add to yoghurt or just eat the clusters as a healthy snack.

The clusters

Close-up:  (ingredients copied from the list on the box) Buckwheat, Puffed Rice, Sunflower Seeds, Organic Raw Sugar, Rice Bran Syrup, Almonds, Hazelnuts, Pecans, Pumpkin Seeds, Puffed Millet, Psyllium Husks, Chia Seed, Flaxseed, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavour, Cinnamon.

I like the taste of cinnamon in general but somehow I do not quite like the overall sweet taste of this clusters (on the box, it says "The clusters have a scrumptious nutty cinnamon flavour...." but I just couldn't bring myself to like the taste). I took a few months to finish eating them. I don't think I will buy it again as I prefer the bland taste of plain oats to this.

Going nuts

According to some research, eating almonds, pecans and walnuts may lower our total cholesterol and I need that after eating deep fried squid so I stock up on these 3 types of nuts in my fridge to be eaten with my cereals.

I buy those unroasted ones and I eat them raw just like that but my brother laughed at me and said those are to be used as ingredients for baking. Anyway whenever I feel like snacking on junk food, I will eat these nuts instead.

An apple ...

..a day keeps the doctor away. And I believe it so everyday I eat two apples (kiasu) - one red and one green and an orange.

I eat them first thing in the morning before eating anything else. This is just my preference as the recommended thing to do is just to include 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in our diet each day from a variety of sources and colours.

Therefore I should really eat other fruits too especially local fruits but it is just so convenient to eat these 3 and they only cost me around MYR1 each.

7 Grains

I eat bread daily, sometimes I consume up to 7 slices of bread a day so I choose the bread I eat carefully. Before my late father who had diabetes passed away, someone told him that this Sprouted Life Grain Bread is suitable for his consumption.

This bread is baked and distributed by Adventist Bakery, Penang Adventist Hospital but can be bought in selected supermarkets in the Klang valley. Aeon Supermarket and Cold Storage sells them at MYR6.6 a loaf. There are two types: 7-grains sprouted bread (green packaging) and 3-seeds sprouted bread (red packaging).

I have eaten both types and found that I like the taste of the 7-grains (soya beans, millet, rye, lentil, corn, oat, wheat) bread better. As it is 100% flour free, I can eat more than 5 slices at a go and not feel full.

Since it has no preservaties, I keep it in the fridge and thus it becomes quite dry. Some people may not like it and say that the texture is like cardboard but I can still eat it dry as it is, without any spread. That is usually how I eat my bread, plain. If you eat as much bread as I do, perhaps you may want to try this bread too.
