 Drinks Tasting Day.

Six types of drinks. This is similar to wine tasting except no wine here but permutations and combinations of tea, coffee, white coffee and cocoa drinks. 😋

All the drinks are not that sweet and the milk used does not have an over powering milky taste so the fragrance of the tea, coffee or cocoa are not covered by the milk taste. These drinks are suitable for those persons who don't like milky taste.

Our order on grabfood delivery. Peniagakecil promo gave us a discount of MYR 5 nett from the delivery fee of MYR 10 nett.

This is the fried chicken in the fried chicken coffee set. It is a boneless chicken chop made from a whole leg of the chicken with crispy peppery coating and juicy tender meat. Highly recommended.

Top: chocolate banana swiss roll at MYR 16.50 nett. 

Bottom: Nanyang coffee swiss roll at MYR 17 nett. Their prices are higher than RT Pastry swiss rolls because these two swiss rolls are denser and heavier.

He can eat both swiss rolls because the cream used are non dairy creams without any milk taste. He prefers the chocolate banana swiss roll due to the fresh banana in the middle of the roll and crunchy chocolate balls similar to the texture of maltesers chocolate balls being embedded throughout the swiss roll.

Into the fridge they all go to wait for our tummies to have space for them again.

*** Tian Fang Partial Menu ***

This Tian Fang has many main dishes such as nasi lemak, Mee Siam, pasta, hainanese chicken chop on their menu but here I will just show the part of their menu with the items that are in my order.

I ordered the fried chicken with coffee set. The price charged is MYR 1 higher for the packaging I believe or because I chose Large portion for coffee. When I copied the screen, it was earlier than their opening hours so I get the messages "This restaurant is temporarily closed" and "unavailable" in the screen above. The distance is 14.8 km away from my place.

Of the 4 available swiss rolls in the list, I ordered two of them.

Of the 7 non soft drinks on the menu, we ordered 6 drinks to taste.

The drink that we didn't order is Teh Tarik.

*** Sepetang Nasi Lemak Day ***

Sunday is our Sepetang Nasi Lemak day. This coffee shop only allows 3 customers to queue for the nasi Lemak inside the shop. If you are customer number 4, you need to queue outside the shop and go in only when one customer is done with the order and exits the coffee shop.

This is my usual nasi lemak with a small portion of rice at MYR 7 nett. The bittergourd, soyknot and egg tofu are from the chap fan below.

I also bought chap fan takeaway from Tuck Tuck Tei economy rice shop a few units away from Sepetang coffee shop. This chap fan aka economy rice costs MYR 7.50 nett with one pork chop, bitter gourd, soy knots, egg tofu and a small portion of rice. Two of us shared this rice dish as dinner.

*** Are You Ready for Full Lockdown ? ***

After seeing the long queues at various supermarkets in online photos and videos, I placed an order for delivery from Aeon Supermarket in Taman Maluri to be received on Sat 29.may.21 between 5 pm to 7 pm. Unfortunately they couldn't make it on Sat so I was informed that the delivery slot for me is changed to Sun 30.may.21 from 11 am to 1 pm. 

8 minutes to 1 pm, my order was delivered without 3 items that are out of stock. I wonder will the system automatically refund the amount of these 3 items to me since they are out of stock. Will find out from Aeon customer service personnel afterwards.

The above eggs and oats are for the elderlies.

These two swiss rolls from Tian Fang Cafe and budget banana cake from Aeon Supermarket delivery are for us two.

Oops, I think I may have bought too many packs of bread and buns so will be giving away the two loaves of bread to my friend.

WG Purple Cane Set Meal

I have been to Purple Cane, Midvalley Mall 3 times for lunch. Before this they do not have any lunch set menu but recently they started one and my friend wanted to try it.

This looks nice doesn't it? It even has two large pieces of Huai Shan (淮山 - wild yam) which I thought was daikon until I bite into them.

My mini vegetable hot pot lunch set at MYR 26.90++ (MYR 31.20 nett after 10% service charge and 6% SST). I gave the bowl of rice to my friend. All items taste good except for the beancurd sheets roll which is too hard.

My friend's lunch set of noodles with minced mushroom at MYR 18.90++ (MYR 21.90 nett). There were so much noodles until she could not finish them.

Crostoli

On the previous Sat (13 Apr), I went for the afternoon tea at Prego, Westin Hotel, KL again at MYR 98 nett for 2 pax. This time with a friend whom I have not met up with, for about 5 years and 3+ months. Both of us asked for tea so we were given two teacups with a pot of Boh English Breakfast Tea instead of the previous Jing's Chamomile Tea.

This time, I remembered to take a photo of the Crostoli - deep fried dough dusted with cinnamon sugar.

It is good that there is now a leaflet with the name and description of each item so that we know exactly what we are eating.

Without the descriptions, I would not know what the items are just from their names.

Afternoon Tea at Prego

Afternoon tea at Prego, an Italian Restaurant at Westin Hotel, KL - MYR 98 nett for 2 pax which is an affordable price when compared to afternoon teas at other hotels in KL. We were there on a Saturday during the afternoon tea session which is from 2pm to 6pm.

3 of us were served with a complimentary loaf of bread with tomato dips and warm drinking water (foc).  

The afternoon tea includes 2 drinks so we chose a pot of tea and a cup of coffee. The tea served was Jing Chamomile tea which is very fragrant.

Can you spot the wood fired pizza oven?

 Our ala carte order - a margherita pizza (cheese and tomatoes) at MYR 48 nett. We got 30% off from using a specific credit card during payment so this pizza only costs MYR 33.60 nett. It was a nice surprise as we did not know about this promotion beforehand. Wood fired pizza tastes so good when compared to the common oven baked pizza. The crust is light and crispy with a unique smoky taste from the wood fired oven.

 The bottom of the pizza is slightly scorched so the crust is crispy and infused with a lovely woody smoky flavour.

1. olives 2. deep fried Calzone Farcito - the ones that look like curry puffs - Calzone means folded pizza and farcito means stuffed. I read that it is filled with tomato, cheese, turkey ham and artichokes. 3. Puff Pastry filled with Spinach and Ricotta cheese. I can taste the butter used to glaze the puff pastry.

Top Tier: 1. Pannacotta with one blueberry on top and strawberry/raspberry sauce. The pannacotta is very milky. 2. Tiramisu topped with a coffee chocolate - too little in the tiny glass for me to savour the taste. 3. Light green sponge cake made from pistachio - I find this quite sweet. 4. Cannoli -  pastry roll filled with a sweet, creamy ricotta and candied dried fruit pieces. The strongest flavour is from the candied orange peel.

Most bottom tier (left to right): 1. Bruschetta topped with smoked salmon, cream cheese and one caper. From the online dictionary, I found that Bruschetta means toasted Italian bread drenched in olive oil and served typically with garlic or tomatoes toppings.

2. Focaccia  sandwich with tomato, rocket herbs, slices of turkey salami and cheese. From online dictionary: focaccia means a type of flat Italian bread made with yeast and olive oil and flavoured with herbs. Salami is a cured sausage made from salted raw meat.

3. Bruschetta topped with chopped fresh tomates and cheese. It is refreshing to eat this after eating all the sweet pastry. 

Middle Tier: 1. Far right, not in this photo is the Crostoli Veneziani. They are two thin strips of deep fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Crostoli is the plural of Crostolo which means "angel wings". Veneziani could mean from Venice. You can see how Crostoli look like from this recipe online.

2. The two items that look like cupcakes are Panettone, an Italian sweet cake-like bread that originated from Milan.

3. Mini fruit custard tarts topped with strawberry and raspberry.

With the 30% discount for the ala carte pizza, the total bill is MYR 131.60 nett for 3 pax sharing 1 set of Italian Afternoon Tea with one pizza to celebrate a birthday. What makes this afternoon tea special is that it gives you a taste of Italy in small bites. With the affordable price, I may have it again for special occasions.

Claypot Chicken Rice

On the Sunday just before CNY eve (Monday), we went to Pavilion to meet up with our friends from Penang. We ate at Din Tai Fung, Pavilion and then adjourned to "HK Boy Cart Noodle", Pavilion for their tasty milk tea.

We ordered some snacks to go with the milk tea based drinks. The soup was filled with crunchy cloud ear fungus (julienned) and soft glass noodles so it was quite tasty. My friend prefers the iced ying yong to the iced milk tea. I dare not try the fried intestines on a stick but my friend says it has a crunchy outer layer but soft inner layer.

Total bill is MYR 30.95 nett for 2 pax.

After hanging around in Pavilion for a while, we went to the food court at Four Seasons Place KL to compare the food there against hawker food in Penang. I shared this claypot of chicken rice with my friend. It costs MYR 11 plus 6% service (MYR 11.66 nett). By default, there are small pieces of salted fish in the rice so it is very tasty.
