Local Seedless Guava

Do you eat fruits every day?

I eat an orange daily but decided to try eating local fruits instead so I bought a pack of 4 guavas.

Seedless Guava at MYR 12 nett. I selected a pack with 4 guavas so each guava costs MYR 3 nett.

Although the label says seedless, there is still a ring of seeds. We like the raw green taste of guavas, very refreshing. After eating this guava, I felt like I have just brushed my teeth, the taste is that refreshing.

*** Monday 31 Aug 2020 d167 ***

Went to Sepetang coffee shop to buy takeaway food for Monday and Tuesday. 10.26 am - nasi lemak with chicken slices.

10.34 am - we shared this pack of Mee jawa at MYR 6.5 nett. Can't see the noodles at the bottom.

I asked for the gravy to be put together with the noodles and deep fried fritters because I like to eat soft food.

10.51 am - can see the noodles and half a hard boiled egg. The gravy is very appetising because it has freshly squeezed lime juice in it. There are a few types of deep fried fritters inside which are very tasty but I didn't ask what they are made of other than flour.

12.10 noon - after eating my portion of the Mee jawa, I finished my portion of chicken slices nasi lemak.

2.20 pm - nasi lemak tiny prawns for lunch. These two packs of nasi lemak cost MYR 15 nett.

2.53 pm - my portion of nasi lemak for lunch.

6.41 pm - fish cake mee Hoon mix hor fun at MYR 6.5 nett for dinner.

6.53 pm - my portion of dinner. Before going out to buy takeaway food, I ate one corn custard bun to keep hunger at Bay.

Blur Blur

This is an apple, this is not a pen. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. This is the story of how I ended up with 15 red apples.

I ordered 10 oranges, 10 green apples, 5 avocados (MYR 6 nett each) and one papaya (MYR 6 nett) from my neighborhood fruit shop and went to pick my order up. Paid MYR 80 nett and the saleslady loaded the box with all the fruits into the car's boot.

When I reached home, I looked at the list of items to find that I have paid for and picked up someone else's order of 29 oranges, 15 red apples, 11 green apples and 3 bunches of green bananas. Oh well, I didn't want the hassle of returning the items in exchange for my items so I gave away 9 oranges, 5 red apples, 11 green apples and 1 bunch of green bananas. Then I went to pick up my papaya and 5 avocados (MYR 36 nett).

Ate 1 red Fuji apple each so 8 more to go. An apple a day so it takes 4 days for 2 pax to clear these apples.

20 Valencia oranges. Ate 1 each so 18 left. 9 days to clear so that I can buy Navel oranges again.

Two bunches of this very green banana (pisang emas). Will they ever ripen?

11.51 am to 1.20 pm - Sourcing for vegetables. Went to Mr. Farmer shop and bought 4 green apples (MYR 1.50 nett each - smaller than the 11 green apples and 50 cents more), MYR 17.50 nett for two large cabbages and 2 white daikon. Was surprised to see SRK Noodle House right at the corner unit of this row of shops so I went there to take away lunch.

 Saw this vegetarian shop.

No crowd, no queues, no customers. So into the shop I went.

Bought these 3 packs of EverBest brand fresh soy chip and fresh soy stick for MYR 12.80 nett.

Photo timestamp: 2.22 pm - my portion of lunch from SRK Noodle House. It was lardy lard taste so I ate 2 packs of pickled green chilies with the noodles in order not to be satiated too early. Now I understand why they gave 3 packs of pickled green chilies when there is only one pack of noodles.

Bought large Mee pok dry and large Bien Nulk to be shared by 2 pax for lunch. Total bill is MYR 19 nett (MYR 9.50 nett each).

Breakfast at 11 am on 7 May 2020 Thursday d 51. Fried egg, bread and tomatoes. Good enough.

Followed immediately by one portion of banana cake as per schedule to clear. Didn't eat any honey butter biscuits, cheddar Bay  biscuits, Texas tenders so they are falling behind schedule. Maybe eat two items tomorrow to catch up.

Local Fruit Box Eat Raw Sweet Corn

*** Friday 24 April 2020 d38 ***

Bought a local fruit box for MYR 30 nett to help out local farmers with delivery fees MYR 10 to help out public transporters so total cost is MYR 40 for one honey melon, two guavas, one papaya, two star fruits, two pineapples, 5 bananas in one bunch from Mr Banana farm, and 3 sweet corns.

As one of the pineapple is ripe, I spent some time to cut it up. Eat and cut, eat and cut or rather it is cut and eat, cut and eat and ended up with one container to store in the fridge. Like Libby says in her comment, buying whole fruits involved a lot of cutting.

It has been a long, long, long time since I last eat a star fruit. Both star fruits fit in one container to go into the fridge. Do you cut star fruit horizontally to show the star shape or vertically into strips? My mother used to feed us star fruits when we were young. Ah, the memories. Ate some while cutting, taste exactly the same as the star fruits that I ate when young.

Cut up one guava because it seems to be ripe into one container and into the fridge it goes. Tastes the same as the ones my mother used to feed us as children.

Three sweet corns on the cob. I removed the husk and the silk. Ate one raw corn on the cob - so very sweet and tender. Very tasty so it is good to be eaten raw because it is fresh. Left two to be eaten tomorrow.

So I have one honey melon, 3 bananas of 5 (we ate one each), one papaya, one guava and one pineapple uncut. Should last me for one week.

Instant noodles kosong with blanched cabbage and one piece of Texas Chicken tender (not in photo) for dinner at 6 pm.

Not-my-lunch of curry instant noodles, blanched cabbage and two Texas Chicken tenders at 1 pm.

My breakfast of instant oats with dried cranberries and almonds at 10 am with Royce Baton Cookies Coconut as dessert.

I did not know that it has chocolate underneath the cookie so I took it out from the fridge and the chocolate melted. There are strings of coconut (yay char) in the cookie. Amazing, such a very thin piece of cookie, they manage to put yay char inside.

Big on Fruit

Last week, these are the fruits that I bought during my weekly grocery trip. Normally I just buy oranges but there was a promotion going on for other fruits so I bought them as well. The bag of 8 Cara cara navel, or red-fleshed navel oranges costs MYR10.90 nett.

This pack of blueberries was on offer. The usual price is MYR9.50 nett but now it is selling for MYR7.90 nett so I bought one pack (125g with 79 blueberries in it). The blueberries were slightly sweet and the taste is quite mild until I couldn't determine what the taste is like, quite unlike the taste of those blueberry flavoured food but I like the taste of fresh blueberries more than those flavoured food so I will buy more of them if they are on offer.

I bought 2 packs of 6 kiwi fruit each for MYR11.10 nett each. I think some other places sell them at a lower price than what I have paid for here. These green kiwi fruit are quite sweet when ripe.

I also bought a pack of 3 ripe avocados at MYR11.90 nett. The usual price is MYR13.40 nett. Avocados are quite expensive here but I like to eat them because they are very creamy with a sulphur taste which I like so I buy them once in a while and eat them plain, sometimes with plain wholemeal bread.

I love to eat cherries but they are very expensive so I only buy them once in a blue moon. This is a 1-kg bag of cherries selling at MYR48.90 nett (usual price is MYR49.90 nett). These fruits should last me for about two weeks.

Fresh Lychee

Canned lychees in syrup are very popular during Chinese New Year because many people like to eat it with ice cubes as a dessert. Fresh lychees on the other hand, are not that popular because some people say that after eating fresh lychees, they are prone to sore throat and cough. I wonder whether this is true or not. I just find fresh lychees to be very sweet.

Soursop

I saw this small soursop in the supermarket selling for MYR6 something and it was soft so I assumed that it was ripe enough to be eaten immediately so I bought it.

When I reached home, I wanted to eat it immediately but I like eating it cold so I put it into the freezer for about half an hour. It was not frozen, just cold enough for me to enjoy it. Sour with a tinge of sweetness - very refreshing. I will buy more if I can find ripe ones.

JJ Lifestyle Cafe

We hung out at JJ Cafe (just opened mid 2013) from 11.30am to 1pm to wait for the two stalls mentioned in my previous post to open. Some people in our party of 6 were hungry so we ordered some food to go with the drinks.

Pulled Pork Charcoal Burger - MYR12 from "Today's Specials" menu.

Chicken Pot Pie - MYR8

MYR12 - I forgot the name of this dish but all of you can tell what it is by looking at it.

4 mini tarts - MYR6, 2 cupcakes - MYR6 from the dessert counter

My drink - ice blended fresh strawberry without any syrup - really sour but I like it because of the fresh strawberry taste - MYR9. They did give me a tiny jug of syrup and refused to take it away when I said I didn't need it because I think they did not think I can stand the sourness but I did not touch the syrup at all.

My spouse's drink - ice blended fresh kiwi without any syrup - sour with a tinge of sweetness and I like this drink too - MYR9.

Nice decor

JJ Cafe, Jalan Kampar, Ipoh - a nice place to hang out - prices stated on the menu are nett prices.
