Luk Dou vs Mei Dou

Wednesday 24 June 2020 d99  - went out to takeaway food and saw the Bak Chang stall opposite Choy Kee coffee shop. Bought two savoury dumplings at MYR 6 nett each and two red bean dumplings at MYR 2.50 each.

Can you spot the Luk Dou (mung beans) in the Bak Chang in the photo above?

This Bak Chang is with Mei Dou (black eyed beans).

The Bak Chang with chestnuts and dried shrimps (har bee) costs a bit more, at MYR 7.50 nett. I didn't buy because I don't want to eat dried shrimps in Bak chang though I like chestnuts.

Twiggies

Gardenia Chocolate Twiggies with 2 in a pack at MYR 1.60 nett.

One cake from the fridge

I broke it up into so many parts because I am trying to show the chocolate cream that they pipe into this cake but it did not show mainly because the chocolate cream is solid due to being in the fridge.

The packaging.

The cross section shows the chocolate cream inside the chocolate cake roll.

Ingredients

*** Monday 22 June 2020 d97 ***

9 am - Celery pork sui gao boiled direct from frozen with choy sum.

9.09 am - my portion - 3 sui gao only and one stalk of choy sum without any soup.

12 noon - a request for AMAH nasi lemak with no sambal and no cutlery with extra rice for tomorrow and chicken rendang for tomorrow also. Bought via Grab with no discounts so it costs about MYR 32 inclusive of delivery fees.

12.30 noon - my portion of nasi lemak with some chicken.

7 pm - dried oyster pork radish red carrots soup. Very sweet and taste of the sea. Ate with one slice of wholemeal bread. A pack of dried oyster contains 18 dried oysters weighing a total of 100 grams sold at MYR 17 per 100 grams.

Dine in 3

Yesterday Sunday 21 June 2020 d96, we were around the vicinity so we dropped by the Kai si hor fun shop that we bought takeaway from last Tuesday to dine in because there are two tables in the non aircon area with good ventilation which are more than 6 feet apart so social distancing is confirmed being implemented in this eatery and we sat at one of the two tables.

The table is divided into 4 sections by yellow tapes and we got our temperature taken and we wrote our contact details in the book at the entrance of the eatery.

2 noodles, 2 sides and a drink for MYR 29.60 nett, quite a good price for tasty food.

*** Mung beans biscuits again ***

Bought at De Market at the same shelf as the Aik Bee biscuits. This tub has the word masin (salty) written on it. Same price too at MYR 3.70 nett.

Looking at the address, this is by Aik Bee bakery in Klang too.

The biscuits are a bit bigger than the ones I bought last week. Like PH with her TK panda layer cake, I ate all 5 of them at one go because I was very hungry at 5 pm.

The fillings are still sweet though it says salty and has salt in it. Ok, not the best but acceptable though a far cry from Penang  mung bean tambun biscuits.

Healthy with Unhealthy

11.41 am - Brunch of Quaker Oats with 2 slices of pan fried luncheon meat cut into 4. This Quaker Oats is sold in red packets labelled as instant oats. I just add hot water to it and stir. No cooking is required.

Do you eat your oats thick like this or do you prefer watery oats? This is a good combination as I didn't add anything to the oats so the taste of the oats offsets the saltiness of the luncheon meat.

Pan fried the only remaining pack of luncheon meat 2 of 2 with 8 slices in it.

10.55 am Saturday 20 June 2020 d95. Went out to buy our weekly gardenia loaf wholemeal bread so we bought this pork stomach pepper soup Mee Hoon at MYR 8 nett but this time was given hor fun also. There are pork meat, liver and intestines in this Mee Hoon as well.

A clear favourite as the soup has a strong peppery taste which is hot in a spicy way for those who loves the taste of white pepper instead of black pepper though I can't tell the difference between the taste of white vs black pepper. Can you tell?

My portion of meehoon and hor fun at 11.05 am.

*** The experiment ***
peanut butter jam luncheon meat sandwich

Since myburgerlab has a peanut butter jam burger, I thought ok, I would make a peanut butter jam luncheon meat sandwich then for dinner since I have pan fried luncheon meat and Smucker's goober peanut butter grape jam and whole meal bread.

Close up - two halves slices of luncheon meat on thick spread of peanut butter jam on top of 3 slices of wholemeal bread.

Oops, I put too much peanut butter and jam compared to the bottom thin slice of luncheon meat so sometimes I don't taste the luncheon meat at all, just taste the jam. When I could taste the luncheon meat, the 5 spices marinate used on the luncheon meat clashes with the taste of the grape jam. Not that compatible but still ok. I finished the whole sandwich easily. Not a well matched combination but can be accepted.

6.44 pm - Not my dinner so cleared the luncheon meat in vacuum packaging on d95.

Aik Bee Biscuit

Bought this roll of 5 mung beans biscuits at MYR 3.70 nett from De Market, Taman Desa.

It is made in Klang. The wrapper is the only layer wrapping the biscuits so I prefer the packaging of Huat Huat mung bean biscuits.

The biscuit has a small piece of paper underneath it and it breaks apart easily so need to handle with care. Taste wise, it is not similar to other mung beans biscuits because I could not quite taste the mung beans aroma. The fillings taste more like lotus paste.

*** Friday 19 June 2020 d94 ***

11.20 am - lunch of two slices of trout, Kai choy, 80 ml Calrose rice is ready. Reminds me of risotto again. Who would have thought the slight bitter taste of Kai choy would go so well with trout.

Keep for dinner.

My portion - yums! So all frozen trout pieces are cleared on this d94.

Smuckers Goober Grape

I grew up eating this Smucker's Goober Grape so I always keep one or two bottles in my fridge when the price is low on offer. I read some not very good reviews about it but I will always love the taste.

There is another product called Smucker's Goober Strawberry and even though I love to eat strawberry jam but I have never bought it to try or maybe I did buy it but it just did not reach me because I did not grow up eating it. Now I think of it, I don't think I have seen the Strawberry version on the supermarkets' shelves, just the grape version. I know lady's choice also have grape and peanut butter but I only like this brand. Maybe because it reminds me of my childhood.

Oh, I have two bottles in my fridge - one expiring in Aug 2020 and one in Nov 2020 and I don't think I will be able to finish them in time before they expire.

*** 18 June 2020 Thursday d93 ***

1.48 pm - my lunch of 5 kfc nuggets with 2 slices of sprouted grain bread.

6 pm - dinner for 2pax, pork mushrooms dumplings with nai pak vegetables and the one remaining green bell pepper so finally finished all the red and green capsicums.

6.30 pm - my portion of dinner, 3 dumplings
