Monthly Dim Sum

This plate of french beans with dried shrimp chilli is listed as titbits in the receipt and is served by default (MYR3). You have to say you don't want it if you do not want to pay for it. I wonder whether anyone would make the mistake of thinking that it is a complimentary starter. A pot of tea with  refillable hot water costs MYR 4 for 2 pax. A variety of condiments/sauces is also provided.

Steamed dim sum - scallops and vege dumplings (MYR9), century egg siew mai with ginger slices (MYR8), prawn dumpling /har kau (MYR9)

The scallop vege dumpling is the nicest among the whole lot

The taste of prawn dumpling with sizable prawns became boring when compared to the scallop vege dumplings.

A slice of century egg is placed on top of the pork meat filling in the siew mai.

BBQ pork (Char Siew) puffs - MYR7 - the pastry tastes strongly of butter and maybe milk or cream so one will feel coy after eating too much of this. I could not stop the waiter in time from cutting this with a pair of scissors but after this, the waiter then asked me before he attempts to cut the other deep fried dim sum and I replied no. There were only two of us at the table so there wasn't a need to cut the dim sum. In my opinion, cutting dim sum is only applicable if there are many people at a table sharing limited pieces of food.

The BBQ pork / char siew filling is both sweet and savoury

Roast pork - MYR16 served with a fiery mustard dip (not in photo)

I see pork belly

Salad prawn (MYR8) served with mayonnaise

The filling is the same as the steamed prawn dumplings

The mayonnaise dip looked untouched even after I dipped the deep fried prawn dumplings into it so in order to ensure that it could not be reused, I mixed some other condiments/sauce into it. Total bill for two came up to MYR74.25 after 10% service charge and 6% government tax.

The two of us were ushered to a table in a corner

Torturing the Lions?

Another not-a-food post. I just read a lion dance post so I post one lion dance post here in return. This is the only lion dance I witness this CNY with two lions - a red one and a yellow one.

The red one had to leap up to eat an angpow hung close to the ceiling board.

The yellow one also had to leap up to eat a bunch of green vege hung from the ceiling.

Which is Love?

This is not a food post but a food-for-thought post.

Recently I talked to two friends about the passing of their grandmothers. Both grandmothers lived to a ripe old age of over 90 and just like that, one day, their families could not wake them up so they were rushed to a hospital's emergency department.

Grandma A has well-to-do children so when the doctors say that they could not do anything more for her, her children transferred her to a private nursing home who fed her via the tube through her nose (she was still in a coma) and took good care of her. Her children visited her daily and she stayed in a coma for one whole month before she passed away silently in the wee hours of the night at the nursing home without any loved ones beside her.

Grandma B does not have well-to-do children so when her children saw that she was in a coma in the hospital, they asked her whether she would like to go home and when tears started streaming down Grandma B's face, the children took it as yes so they signed her out of the hospital themselves against the advice of doctors, took her home and made her comfortable. The children applied for leaves from work and took turns to sit by her bedside round the clock, feeding her via a tube through her nose, changing her diapers, wiping her body, turning her frequently so that she would not get bedsores. After 3 to 4 days of these, Grandma B finally took her last breath with all her loved ones beside her, holding on to her hands, telling her not to worry about them.

Both grandmothers did not wake up from their coma from when they were discovered to their leaving this earth. After listening to these two friends, I ask myself, if I am the children and my mother falls into a coma, would I go the route of Grandma A or B.

If I were the Grandma, would I care if my loved ones took the route of Grandma A or Grandma B? Does it matter? Care to share your thoughts on this?

Does the job well

Pork ribs curry mee - about MYR6.50 - very tasty but this dish sure gets me every time. I think it is due to the amount of oil. So every time I am facing a difficult time, no need to drink prune juice, just order this particular delicious bowl of this curry mee will do the trick. :)

Heritage Village at Jaya

Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang - MYR10.90++ We consider this price to be good because there is quite a sizable amount of beef.

The menu says Lemongrass Honey Tea so we thought it is like English tea and it turned out to be just a drink with lemongrass and honey in it - about MYR4.60++

Many photos on the wall
