Assam Laksa with lots of raw vegetables on top - shredded cucumber, lettuce and onion in a sourish broth thick with shredded fish. Tastes good although it was more sweet than sour and not that hot and spicy.
Instead of the usual thick rice noodles (Lai Fun) which I find difficult to chew because they are springy, I requested for yellow noodle and mee hoon. A bowl of assam laksa costs MYR8.90 and I added more fish which costs MYR2.90 so the total price of my lunch is MYR11.80 nett. I could have ordered the set lunch for MYR11.50 nett which consists of a bowl of noodle and a drink.
Also on the menu are Curry Laksa, Pan Mee, Herbal Chicken Soup with Rice and Nasi Lemak Rendang (Coconut Milk Rice with Chicken Rendang).
Ah Cheng Laksa at The Sphere, next to Simply Mel's. At 12noon, there is usually a queue for lunch.
Place your order, pay, wait for your number to be shown on the display and then collect your bowl of noodle from the counter.
Sweet? Not hot & spicy? I guess places like this has to try and please everybody and in the end, pleases nobody.
ReplyDeleteYes, I bought the laksa noodles once, it was indeed not all that easily chewable...unlike our "hung ngang", the big bihun that looks near identical. I would ask for more fish too!
I can't eat spicy so this is right for me.
DeleteI like my assam laksa with lai fun, or sometimes I may opt for a mixture of lai fun wih beehoon.. Ah Cheng Laksa, I remember their tagline is something like "the best laksa from the north"??
ReplyDeleteDidn't see their tagline anywhere in the shop.
DeleteZero interest with assam laksa... But I do like lai fun occasionally. Don't like those yellow noodles at all, I hate that alkaline taste.
ReplyDeleteYou don't like sour food? This yellow noodle surprisingly has no alkaline taste.
DeleteI only eat assam laksa with lai fun and it has to be sour and spicy. Since this one is not spicy, I think it suits you since you don't like spicy food.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct! :) the one in o&s is so spicy and sour that I eat one mouthful and straightaway give up!
DeleteSo funny to eat asam laksa with yellow noodles and meehoon :)
ReplyDeleteVery tasty wor. :)
DeleteI eat assam laksa with lai fun or beehoon only. I prefer assam laksa to be a bit spicy and sourish with a bit of sweet. I think I too would want to order extra fish with the laksa.
ReplyDeleteThis one has a bit of spiciness. Is sour too but it is a tad sweet for me.
DeleteThey are very generous with the fish.. kembong fish, right? I love to take laksa too... yummss!
ReplyDeleteThat's because I paid 2.90 extra for additional fish.
DeleteThat bowl of laksa looks extremely good, but I like to eat with lai fun only.
ReplyDeleteYou must have strong teeth then. :)
DeleteNever really a big fan of assam laksa. I would go for curry laksa or herbal chicken soup instead. ^^
ReplyDeleteWhy not? I thought you like sour taste and fish?
DeleteI much prefer sour asam laksa. :) But I guess sweet suits some people.
ReplyDeleteIt is still sour but the sweetness is there too.
DeleteI think Ah Cheng's Assam Laksa suits my craving for this Penang's delicacy in KL.
ReplyDeleteTheir fish is really generous and I find it not spicy enough. Normally I would sweat buckets when I ate them in Penang. I would love to eat this Laksa with just the soup and vegetables for a good kick.
You don't want to eat the noodles? Just the soup and vegetables? On diet?
