I always walk pass this eatery at One Utama without knowing the exact name until RG wrote a post about it. No, I still have not eaten at this place. I ate in the eatery opposite it which is...
... Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert because my friend wanted to eat there.
Char Siew Snowy Bun - MYR6.90++ for two in a serving (MYR8 after 10% service charge and 6% GST)
If you do not think Tim Ho Wan's Crispy BBQ Pork Buns are tasty, then you must try this to see the difference. Not for those who do not like sweet over powering buttery taste which is what the Snowy parts are all about.
Mango Glutinous Rice Roll - MYR5.90++ (MYR6.90). I think they could do without the mango sauce on top.
Not that sweet. Would be much better it the glutinous rice part is thinner and there is a bigger piece of mango inside.
Yolky Custart Pau - MYR5.90++ (MYR6.90) - two paus in a serving
The filling is a bit too sweet despite having a nice strong salted egg yoke taste. The pau skin is too thick and on the dry side.
This congee when served looks so plain.
It is Supreme Congee with Sliced Fish, Prawns and mock abalone slices - MYR17.90++ (MYR20.90 nett). More ingredients inside the conge than those served by i-Canton so this dish is worth the price above.
Tong Yuen Sesame Paste - MYR7.90+ (MYR9.20). My friend said that the sesame paste has been diluted and doesn't taste like sesame paste.
Dim Sum & Win Some! says the red crown on the wall.
l
Seems a popular place with many people eating the wanton noodles which we will try next time.
Your food selections are great! All are things that I would go for, especially the mango roll. I love mangoes!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to order the snowy bun please eat the one from THW first.
DeleteWow, the mango glutinious rice roll looks interesting, never seen that before.. And oooo I love black sesame paste, I can finish 2 bowls !
ReplyDeleteYes do try the mango glutinous rice roll. It is nice.
DeleteI have been walking past that bbq chicken place for years and yet I have not gone inside to check them out. After reading RG's post, one day I shall!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your post about it when you do.
DeleteI would love to try the char siew snowy bun, once at least...not cheap wor. Yes, the skin of the lau sar pao sure looks thick, the filling inside does not look like a lot, usually it would flow out all over. I like the texture of the congee though, can't see the rice grains, well done...but ouch! The price! Doesn't really look like a classy joint.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to try that better eat at THW. That price for the porridge is considered reasonable.
DeleteThe Mango sticky rice looks special. I would love to try that and the char siew snowy bun too. I've not dined here neither. Tsk.. considering that I spent most of my weekends in 1U, I'm not that adventurous eh as I tend to stick to one or two of my favourite eateries and not venture into others.
ReplyDeleteBetter eat the snowy bun at THW. Which are the eateries you frequent in one utama?
DeleteI would go for the supreme congee. I would also want the Tong Yuen sesame paste but since you mentioned it has been diluted, I will let that out. Mango glutinous rice roll is something new to me.
ReplyDeleteYes no need to order the sesame paste. I think you can get better ones in Ipoh.
Deleteis this a new place?? or maybe it is because i have not been to 1U for many many moons, hahaha.. have not tried in both of the places you mentioned above.. the custard bun and the black sesame paste with glutinous balls look good to me..
ReplyDeleteThis one can be considered new. That chicken place is not new.
DeleteThat mango sticky rice looks good. I like yolky custard paus but not too sweet.
ReplyDeleteThe filling is sweet but not the skin.
DeleteI'm like the other way round, I always walk pass it but never went inside, because usually I go 1U to buy stuffs I need then leave, hardly eat there! xp
ReplyDeleteYou have home cooked food to eat so no need to eat out.
DeleteNow which corner of 1u are these hiding in??
ReplyDeleteI can't go to dessert restaurants as hubby doesn't eat them. Still, nvm coz by now I also don't like desserts as much as I used to. Having somebody showing bored face at something for years tend to put you off that something. :)
These are near cold storage. Walk straight to the end. Your husband can eat the wanton mee or porridge here. Those are not desserts.
DeleteOoh ok. Near Nonya colours/Tang Shifu then?
DeleteNear Tang Shifu is correct but the dessert shop there is not Nyonya colours because Nyonya colours is at the old wing, the nyonya dessert shop that you are referring to is "Little Cravings".
DeleteI guess the logo says it all 'dim sum and win some'....heehee....some hits and some misses! :D
ReplyDeleteMore hits I hope.
DeleteI like the BBQ Pork Bun and mango rice roll
ReplyDeleteTHW BBQ Pork Bun is better.
DeleteI feel like having supper when reading your post at this hour..:D
ReplyDeleteNever read food post when hungry at late night. :D
DeleteI think we have Sheng Kee desserts here in SG too, must visit it to try the BBQ Pork Bun and mango rice roll one of these days, wonder if the menu is the same
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right! I think this is a Singapore Franchise.
DeleteNext time, do try out BBQ chic. And if you can make it to the BBQ chic outlet in Berjaya Times Square, I can give you a discount :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! But just wondering, how come you can give discount at the Berjaya Times Square branch?
DeleteI have been there and everything is yummy! Will go again.
ReplyDeleteHave you eaten the other Korean chicken too? How do they compare to each other? Which one is tastier?
