Roasted Duck

Roast Duck Leg with rice set - MYR 15.50 nett. Duck leg is more expensive than the rest of the duck.

Duck wanton noodle (dry) - MYR 10.50 nett. The dark gravy is more to the sweet side.

This stall is located at the Aeon food court at the Midvalley. Decent duck stall.

GS 6 bowls

We ordered almost one of each option that is available on the menu.  MYR 1.88++ per bowl (5% service charge 6% GST making it MYR 2.10 nett per bowl).

Two other varieties. I like the small portion as it gives me the opportunity to try all options without being too full.

Some protein - 5 pieces of crispy chicken wings at MYR 9.34++ (MYR 10.40 nett).

Total bill is MYR 22.95 nett at the Original Boat Noodle at IPC (Ikano Power Center)

Please click on the above image for a larger view to see the various options for the bowl noodle.

We did not order the desserts.

Morganfield

I chose salad instead of soup for my lunch set and paid an extra of MYR 2.90 nett to upgrade the soft drink included in the lunch set to fresh celery juice. I was assured that no salt or sugar would be added to the celery juice but the celery juice was salty.

I think I am having a joke since I ordered a chili sausage bun lunch set at MYR 12.90 nett instead of pork ribs. After eating the salad, coleslaw and drinking the celery juice I was quite full so I ate half the sausage bun and kept half with all the fries for my dinner.

My friends ordered pork patty and pork schnitzel for their lunch sets. I will be back one week day for their more expensive pork ribs lunch sets and bring more containers with me to bring the unfinished pork ribs home for other meals.

Splurge

Two of us decided to celebrate my friend's birthday at this popular penthouse bar and eatery on top of the Wolo Bukit Bintang Hotel on a Friday evening.

We ordered one Gin & Tonic at MYR42++ (10% service charge and 6% GST making it MYR 48.95 nett) to try. My friends took some sips and I finished the rest. It is served in a Takeaway Box and is made with Opihr gin. There are pink peppercorns with pieces of guava in the drink. It is a refreshing and not strong drink. Plain drinking water is provided foc.

My friend prefers hot tea so she ordered a pot of Oolong tea at MYR 12++ (MYR 14 nett) with free flow of refillable hot water unlike some tea specialty house which do not refill the hot water. My friend laughingly observed that everyone else except her in this place was having alcoholic drinks.

The birthday friend chose a glass of red wine Cabernet Sauvignon at MYR44++ per glass (MYR 51.30 nett).

We did not plan to have any items from the pickle board but when the waiter presented us with 6 small plates of pickled items and asked us to choose 3 for MYR 5++ (MYR 5.85 nett), my friend could not make up her mind, she said that all the choices look good so each of us make 1 selection.

I took the "spicy pickled pumpkin and chestnut" while my birthday friend selected the "starfruit, papaya, konbu vinegar and mint leaves". My friend who could not decide chose the "cloud ear fungus pickled with shao xing wine, star anise, cinnamon and brown sugar". Very appetising. We should have taken all 6 for MYR 10++.

The place at night has a very nice warm soothing ambiance which is great for relaxing and winding down after a long week at work but the photos did not turn out good due to the dim lighting.

The spring rolls at MYR 26++ (MYR 30.30 nett) above are filled with crisp fried barramundi with Thai basil. The chilli lime fish sauce dip is sourish. Since there are 3 of us, we ate one roll each.

Tiger prawn dumplings with water chestnuts in a curry vinaigrette at MYR 32++ (MYR 37.30 nett). My friend ate 3 dumplings because she does not eat beef which is the next dish. The birthday friend and I ate 1 each.

This is my favourite dish - braised wagyu beef cheek rolls with century eggs and pickled vegetable in Szechuan sauce at MYR 48++ (MYR 55.95 nett). I ate 3 rolls and my birthday friend ate 2 rolls. I like the taste of the beef and century eggs but find the sauce to be a bit overpowering.

Both my friends wanted this dish - Fried Chicken Ribs at MYR 28++ (MYR 32.65 nett). They like it but could not finish it and left 3 pieces so I had to help them. Chicken Ribs turned out to be chicken wings shaped into ribs, very crispy with juicy fatty skins so I could only eat 1 and a half and left another 1 and a half to be removed from our table.

Then all 3 of us shared two main dishes - Pan seared barramundi with spicy tamarind chilli sauce with coconut milk with a pineapple, avocado salsa at MYR 75++ (MYR 87.45 nett). The fish skin is very crispy and the fish meat is fresh. The sauce tastes to me like Assam Laksa broth. The avocado tastes like young unripe sourish mango due to being with the pineapple. We tried our best to finish this fish and we succeeded.

The special fried rice at MYR 25++ (MYR 29.15 nett) is recommended by many online reviews so we ordered it. We thought the portion will be small but we were wrong. We only managed to eat half of it.

Another look at the fish.

The two of us chose this Dessert Tacos at MYR 35++ (MYR 40.80 nett) for our birthday friend. I did not eat any of the tacos because both of them refused to eat the Banana Burrito dessert below so I had to finish it all by myself leaving no space for these tacos. They told me that the dessert tacos are delicious.

Banana Burrito at MYR 35++ (MYR 40.80 nett). I had to finish this all by myself.  I could not taste the Tonka bean ice cream (supposed to have a great unique taste) in the fillings because the deep fried banana and coconut taste is very strong and sweet.

A Coaster

Total bill for 3 pax: MYR 474.50 nett so it was about MYR 158.16 nett each. Two of us gave our birthday friend a treat.

MYR 158.16 for each is about the lower end of the price for a hotel buffet lunch or dinner. Please click on the above to view a larger image of the price of the Lemon Garden buffet lunch or dinner at Shangrila hotel, KL which ranges from MYR 155 nett to MYR 218 nett.

The seats boxed in green is where the 3 of us sat that evening. I would recommend to only eat at this place in the evening for its ambiance. During daytime (as in the photo above), the warm soothing ambiance is lacking due to the bright daylight.

There are two dinner sessions:
1. 6 pm to 8.30 pm
2. 8.30 pm onwards
and we took the later session so that we do not have to vacate our seats if we ate too slowly.

Fong Lye

I ordered this peanut shaved ice at MYR 14.30 nett for my lunch because the portion of food served at this restaurant is huge so I would not be able to finish it and I did not have my container with me. The amount of ice is too much for me too but I forced myself to finish it.

My friend ordered this Fish Slices with Egg and Tomato lunch set at MYR 33.60 nett. She told me that she would not be able to finish it so she asked me to eat some of the Fish Slices and Egg.

So this is the amount of egg, tomato and a slice of fish (hidden under the egg) that I scooped from the mini wok.

Then she could not finish this amount of food in the mini wok. There are about 3 slices of fish and 2 slices of egg so I ate them resulting in me not needing dinner that night because I was still too full from my lunch of peanut ice, fish and egg.

Total Bill for two pax: MYR 47.90 nett at Fong Lye, Gardens Mall. I seldom eat here because the portion of lunch set is huge until even my friend could not finish her meal and they only accept payment in cash.

MTR 1924

I like to eat rice idly (steamed rice cake) so when I read about this authentic eatery from Bangalore which just opened end of last year (2017) in the online local newspaper, I knew that I had to try it.

Rava Idly - MYR 8 nett just for 1 but it is very tasty because it is made with semolina, yoghurt, coriander, cashew nuts, curry leaves and mustard seeds. Semolina is not gluten free so for a gluten free meal, go for rice idly instead.

There are two choices for lassi - sweet or salted. I asked for a lassi without salt and without sugar but the receipt says salted lassi but the lassi I was given was not salty and it was not sweet. It tastes sour so I am not sure whether or not they fulfilled my request or salted lassi does taste sour and not salty. Lassi costs MYR 8 nett.

One Rice Idly and one Uddin Vada (MYR 6 nett). The Rice Idly has a nice fluffy texture. The Uddin Vada (fried lentil doughnut) has a very crispy exterior but soft interior so it is delicious!

Dosa at MYR 9 nett. These semolina pancakes have a rich butter taste so if one does not like butter at all, please stay away.

Onion Utthappam - MYR 11 nett. This thick pancake made with rice, black gram, finely chopped onions and green chillies is not salty so it is perfect to eat with the chutney and lentil sambar. Sambar is a spicy lentil vegetables soup. As I am used to eating less salty food, I prefer the lentil sambar and chutney to be less salty.

The little container on top of the pancake is filled with melted ghee. According to the online article mentioned above, the ghee is made from cow's milk. I tasted the melted ghee and found it to be very buttery but not cloying.

Cold Badam Milk (Cold milk with crunchy almonds, saffron, cardamom and sugar) at MYR 10 nett. I requested for no sugar but was assured that it was only slightly sweet. I guess it has been prepared in advance so they could not cater for no sugar. Although it was not too sweet, I would have preferred it to be less sweet so I won't order this again though it is tasty. The filtered coffee costs MYR 5.50 nett.

Please refer to their main website for the menu and price.

Total price for 4 pax is MYR 57.50 nett. Some would say that the food here is pricey but then it is more affordable than flying all the way to Bangalore.

WG Potato Salad

One of my friend's favourite dish - potato salad at MYR 4.80 nett. She finished the whole dish above by herself while we shared the other food.

Okra with sesame dressing - MYR 5.80 nett and the two of us ate 1 chawanmushi each at MYR 5.80 nett.

Crab meat salad again but this time with wafu dressing instead of sesame dressing at MYR 17.80 nett.

Edamame is a must-eat must-share dish at MYR 5.80 nett.

Bill for two pax - MYR 48.60 nett at Sushi Zanmai, Starling. I did not order any main dish because I was still full from breakfast.

GS Roti Jala Upeh

Roti Jala is one of my favourite dish. This dish of Roti Jala (4 rolls) with curry chicken costs MYR 9.90+ (6% GST so it is MYR 10.50 nett) at Upeh. There is only 1 piece of chicken but the 4 rolls of Roti Jala are very thick and I was so full when I finished eating them. They taste good and soft but I would prefer them to be thinner like this one here.

WG Vegetarian Assam Laksa

My friend decides that she will eat at BMS Organics regularly perhaps even weekly but because her favourite dish (vegetarian bak kut teh) is not in the "member eat free" promotion menu, she did not sign up as a member.

We shared a plate of okras with sesame dressings (11 okras) which costs only MYR 8 nett because it is ordered from the add-on menu. Its normal price is MYR 10.90 nett.

My lunch - assam laksa at MYR 12.90 nett. The broth is very tasty I must say - full of various spices which I cannot identify. My mouth does not feel that it is spicy but my stomach was burning when I finished eating this dish.

I believe that the fake fish is made from mushrooms. Vegetarians who do not eat onions may request for the onions to be omitted. There are cubes of pineapples and lots of shredded onions, cucumber and lettuce.

Bill for 2 pax is MYR 41.80 nett.

The new compact menu that I mentioned previously.  Please click on it for a larger image and if you look hard enough, you may just be able to read the name of the dish and its listed price.

This is the back page of the menu with drinks. Please click on it for a larger image. The next time I eat here, I must remember to take a photo of the add-on menu.

Another visit - Curry noodle cooked with soy milk instead of coconut milk so it tastes creamy too which I find tasty. At MYR 18.90 nett, it is more expensive than the Assam Laksa because it has brinjal, long bean, potato, sprouts and fake meat balls made from mushrooms.

Lei Cha again at MYR 20.90 nett.

Previously I did not show the colour of the lei cha (tea) so here is it. Not very green so I believe the colour is all natural. My family agreed that it does not taste bitter and they can detect the taste of basil so they like it.
